Presque Isle - Elaine Hanscomb, 85, passed away Wednesday, January 29, 2025, at her residence. She was born July 28, 1939, in Easton, the daughter of Eugene J. and Lola P. (Clark) Boulier.
Elaine grew up in Fort Fairfield and graduated from Fort Fairfield High School. She married Claude Hanscomb on June 25, 1960, and together they would share 61 years of marriage and raise their two children: Shawn and Candace. Elaine was an Air Force wife and saw the world while moving from base to base. She would also work at a local hospital wherever they were stationed at. Elaine and Claude would later open a daycare which they would operate for thirty years until Claude's passing in 2021.
Elaine had a strong belief in helping others and volunteered countless hours talking with people on the Suicide and Domestic Violence Hotlines. She was awarded for her compassion and diligence in helping the people of Aroostook County.
Her faith in her Lord and Savior was what defined her though as she was a strong prayer warrior. Elaine and Claude were longtime members of the Christ Gospel Church in Presque Isle, where served as a Sunday School teacher.
She is survived by her daughter-in-law, Shannon Hanscomb of Presque Isle, a grandson, Steffan Hanscomb and his girlfriend, Haleigh York of Fort Fairfield, a step-granddaughter, Amanda Chasser and her husband Mike of Georgia, two step-grandsons, Logan Harvath and his wife, Kerry of Presque Isle, Ethan Kidd of Portland, as well as four step-great-grandchildren, Aiden, Riley, Carmen, and Cameron. Elaine also leaves behind siblings: Carol Kinney of Presque Isle, Janet Sawyer of Easton, Keith Boulier and his wife, Cheryl of Presque Isle, Wayne Boulier of Easton, Paul Boulier and his wife, Judy of Fort Fairfield, as well as several nieces and nephews.
In addition to her parents and husband Claude, Elaine was predeceased by a daughter, Candace Lee Hanscomb, a son, Shawn Ryan Hanscomb, and a brother, Jerry Boulier.
Elaine's family would like to express their gratitude to the House of Comfort and staff for all of their care and compassion during her last days.
Relatives and friends are invited to call 11:00 AM Wednesday, February 5, 2025, at Duncan-Graves Funeral Home, where a memorial service will be conducted at 12:00 PM, with the Rev. Gaylen Doody officiating. Interment will take place at the Northern Maine Veterans Cemetery in Caribou, at a later date.
