Aaron Douglas Martin went to meet his Lord and Savior February 13, 2026. He was born September 1, 1940 to Johnny Price and Dixie Pearl Martin in Clay, Kentucky. He grew up in Kentucky and graduated in 1958 from Madisonville High School where he met his high school sweetheart Charlotte Breedlove. Shortly after graduating high school, Doug joined the Air Force as he wanted to fly airplanes. He ended up not being able to fly as he turned out to be color blind. Since he could not fly the airplanes, he started working on them instead. He worked on B-52 bombers which would cause his hearing loss.
All while he was in the Air Force, Doug kept in contact with Charlotte constantly sending her love letters and pictures of himself to keep her reminded of him. In 1961, he returned to Kentucky to ask Charlotte to be his wife and they were married. After their marriage, Charlotte went with Doug when he returned to the Air Force to complete his duty until his release from active duty in June 1962 and they moved to Hobbs, New Mexico. It was in Hobbs where Doug went to work at Drennan Heating & Air Conditioning for five years learning the sheet metal and air conditioning/heating trade.
In 1967, Doug began working at Marker Sheet Metal. Also in 1967, Doug and Charlotte were blessed with their first child, Marc. In 1969, they were blessed once again with a second child, Cindy. Doug had worked at Marker for 38 years when he retired in 2005. Once hearing of Doug's retirement, Jimmy Jeter asked him to come work for him at ABSW where he worked for another 14 years until he ultimately retired from the sheet metal and air conditioning/heating trade. Over the course of his 57 years in this trade, he became know as "The Sheet Metal Man" as he could pretty much make anything out of metal as long as he had a description and measurements.
Once retired and to keep busy and have a little something to do, Doug worked part-time at Albertsons as a courtesy clerk and also did some maintenance work. He also enjoyed bowling and bowled for several decades in many bowling leagues in Hobbs and participated in many local and state tournaments. He also bowled in 25 consecutive annual National Bowling Tournaments with his son Marc and the rest of his ever- rotating bowling team. When his granddaughters Jessica and Paige were younger, Doug also enjoyed spending time with them and taking them fishing at the local lake on several occasions.
Doug was preceded in death by his father and mother Price and Dixie Martin, and his brother Johnny Martin. He is survived by his loving wife of 64 years Charlotte, son Marc (Vicki) Martin of Midland, Texas, daughter Cindy (Cecil) Dennis of Hobbs, New Mexico, brother Jerry (Linda) Martin of Madisonville, Kentucky, grandchildren Jason Fox and Laura (Jorge) Jimeniz of Midland, Texas, Jessica Dennis of Hobbs, New Mexico and Paige (Braxton) Braly of Lubbock, Texas, seven great grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.
The family would like to thank Dr. Pratt, Miss Debbie and all the nurses at the Hobbs VA clinic, Doug's neurologist Dr. Nelson, his Del Nursing nurses Margie, Terri and Sara as well as his physical therapist Mergyl for taking great care of Doug over the last few years
