I have fought a good fight, I have finished my course, I have kept the faith: Henceforth there is laid up for me a crown of righteousness, which the Lord, the righteous judge, shall give me at that day: and not to me only, but unto all them also that love his appearing. 2 Timothy 4:7,8
Aaron Louis Shambley, son of the late Willie R. Shambley and Gracie F. Shambley was born October 21, 1948, in Bertie County. He departed this earthly life peacefully in his home on March 30, 2024, surrounded by his family.
Aaron graduated from C. G. White High School in 1966 and graduated from Pitt Technical Institute (Pitt Community College) in 1968. After graduation Aaron was employed with NC Depart of Agriculture as a meat and poultry inspector, within a few months of employment he was drafted into the US Army serving in the Vietnam war. Thanks be to God he returned home safely. Aaron continued his employment after serving his country and he resumed his position with the state patrolling slaughterhouses from Raleigh NC to the Virginia line; he was promoted to Asst. Area Supervisor retiring after 20 plus years of service. In addition to resuming his position with the state he joined the 398th Supply Company of Greenville NC (Army Reserve) working as the Mess Sergeant retiring there with the rank of E8. There he met and enjoyed the brotherhood connection of fellow military brothers and sisters; his culinary skills were the best there and at home (show casing his excellency). Continuing his military connection, Aaron joined a group therapy program at the Vet Center of Greenville, NC, there he learned to cope with his PTSD. He and his buddies talked of past times and experiences and learned to deal with situations.
Aaron joined Philippi Church of Christ in 2004 and was. faithful member serving on the Hospitality committee until his health began to fail; he loved to greet and get hugs and handshakes from the congregants. When Aaron was not serving at the church and/or going to his meetings he loved being outside. Yard work was his passion and keeping his vehicles spotless was a must.
Aaron was preceded in death by his brother, Joe W. Shambley.
Leaving to cherish his memories, his college sweetheart, his wife, Diann of 52 years, his pride and joy; his daughter, Robyn; his brother, David E. Shambley and wife, Sandra of Fayetteville NC; sisters in-law, Callie Shambley of Winterville NC, Peggy Collins of Roper NC; aunt, Mary S. Bond of Colerain NC; brothers in-law, Darrel Collins and wife, Debra of Fayetteville NC, Raymond Collins of Raleigh NC, Donovan Collins of Dayton OH; a host of cousins, nieces, nephews and friends.
