Burial will follow in the Hillview Memorial Park. The family will receive friends on Sunday, October 26, 2025 from 1:00 pm to 2:30 pm at Radney Funeral Home.
Aaron Eric Thompson, known affectionately as Eric to his friends and family, passed away peacefully on October 23, 2025, at the age of 83. Born on February 27, 1942, in Clay County, Alabama, Eric was a cherished son, brother, husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, and friend. His final days were spent surrounded by love in Alexander City, Alabama, where he was a respected and valued member of the community.
Eric's early life in Clay County laid the foundation for a man of deep integrity and kindness. He grew to be a loving and gentle soul, whose presence was a comfort to all who knew him. Eric's work in the Radiology Department at Russell Medical Center and at Lakeshore Community Hospital was marked by his dedication and compassion, traits that endeared him to both colleagues and patients alike.
Family was the cornerstone of Eric's life. He is survived by his devoted children, Jonathan Thompson, Tracey Jones, Scott (Rhonda) Carlisle, and LeAnne (Greg) Dunham. His love and legacy continue through his grandchildren, Brandon (Krista) Gilliland, Megan Carlisle, Brittanye (Justin) Burkhalter, Heather (Rob) Fuller, Erica McGhee, Jason (Lori) Carlisle, Hayley Clayton, Caleb Jones, Ryan (Breanna) Bearden, Alex Bearden, Katie Jones, and Kaylee Carlisle, as well as his twenty-six great-grandchildren who brought him immense joy. Eric also leaves behind his sister-in-law, Martha Thompson, and his special friend, companion and caregiver, Lana Sharpe, who both held a dear place in his heart.
Preceding Eric in death were his beloved parents, William Abb Thompson and Zula Thompson; his brothers, Joel, Duel, Elmer, L.V., Winford, Malvin, Braxton, and Oscar Thompson; and his sisters, Verda McDaniel, Willie Merle Thompson, Jeanette Howard, Mary Vinson, and Margaret Jones. His dedication and love as a caregiver to his late wife, Brenda Thompson, exemplified the depth of his affection and commitment to family.
A man of many interests, Eric found solace in the simple pleasures of life. He was an avid fisherman, finding peace and contentment by the water. His garden was a testament to his patience and nurturing spirit, each plant carefully tended to with the same love he showed his family. Eric was known for his milkshakes, which were famously declared the best by his grandchildren, a testament to the sweet moments of joy he created for his family.
Eric's faith was a guiding light in his life. As a faithful member of Orr Street Baptist Church, he lived his beliefs through his actions, embodying the love and grace taught in his faith. His gentle and faith-filled nature was a source of comfort and inspiration to those around him.
The family wishes to extend their heartfelt gratitude to the staff of Ivy Creek Hospice, especially Leigh Ann and Starr "Baby Bear," Denise Williamson, Deborah Sanford, and Doug Howard, for the amazing love and care they provided to Eric in his final days.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be given to Orr Street Baptist Church, 939 O Street, Alexander City, AL 35010.
