Abel B. Martinez, Jr. 78, St. Joseph, Missouri, passed away Tuesday, March 3, 2026.

He was born October 31, 1947 in St. Joseph to Abel B. Martinez, Sr. and Elizabeth (Wyrick) Martinez. He grew up in St. Joseph.

Abel married Dianna Manos on November 1, 1963. She preceded him in death on December 26, 2025.

He enlisted in the U.S. Army at age 17 and proudly served his country during the Vietnam War.

After his service, he drove cement trucks for a construction company, then was an over-the-road trucker for many years.

Abel loved riding his motorcycle that he fondly called "Kitten" and as a member of the VFW Freedom Riders No. 6, he participated in the annual toy run for the Noyes Home for Children.

He also loved going on cruises, fishing, deer hunting, barbecuing, and working on cars – especially older cars. He enjoyed John Wayne movies and Western TV shows as well as history shows and books.

Most of all, he loved spending time with his family and friends, all of whom he called his "tribe."

He was preceded in death by his wife, Dianna; his parents; son, Abel Martinez III; and siblings, Aunt Kathy McBee, Denny and Kenny Martinez (the "twins"), and Michael Martinez.

Survivors include his children, Penny Badgett (Fred), Paul Martinez (Barb), Christopher Martinez and Lora Martinez; several grandchildren and great-grandchildren; siblings, James "Dickie" Martinez (Glenda) and Candy Beers (Roy); other extended family and friends.
