Abram J. McClune, 93, of Elizabethtown, passed away peacefully on Sunday, February 9, 2025 at Masonic Village, Elizabethtown. Born October 26, 1931 in Lancaster, he was the son of the late Abram and Violet (Barret) McClune. He was married 64 years to Cora (Tangert) McClune, who passed away in October 2019.
Abe, affectionately known as Abie, was a graduate of McCaskey High School. A US Navy veteran of the Korean Conflict, he served aboard the USS Helena as a Fire Control Technician and loved his time in the Navy. Upon discharge he began a career at Bell Telephone, rising from Lancaster County lineman to eventually becoming an engineer in Harrisburg. He was chief trouble-shooter of phone issues for a large portion of central and northern Pennsylvania and retired from Bell Telephone in 1986.
Abe met his lovely wife, Cora T. at a church function, and they married on December 24 at Valley Forge in 1955. They had their daughter, Lauren, five years later and moved to Shiremanstown, PA in 1968, where they spent 38 years. An avid runner, Abe was seen in town daily pounding the streets. He also enjoyed biking and was a member of the Harrisburg Bike Club. Abe rode several "century" bike rides (100-mile races) and one double century ride. Among his other interests were tennis, astronomy, and ham radio operating. Abe's call letters were K3RZE and later, W3LN. He operated almost daily until about 6 years ago.
Abe was also a member of the Freemasons, Snyder Lodge in Harrisburg, and he and Cora moved to Masonic Village in Elizabethtown 18 years ago. For many years they enjoyed an apartment in James Buchanon, serving as official greeters to new members of the MV campus community. Abe was a member of the Ham Radio Club there, as well. A 32nd degree Mason, he proudly achieved his lifetime membership status in 2024. He resided in MV Health Care Center when he passed.
Abram is survived by a loving daughter, Lauren M. Krak, widow of Dr. Ronald V. Krak, of Mechanicsburg. Also surviving are three beloved adult grandchildren: Natalie M., married to Stephen Latanishen, Louie V., and David R. Abe was preceded in death by four siblings: Robert, Catherine, Ellen, and Esther.
A memorial service will be held at Masonic Village Health Care Center in the Assembly Room on March 1, at 1:00 pm, with visitation during the preceding hour. The address is 600 Freemason Dr, Elizabethtown, 17022.
