Dorthy McClune, 95 of Malcom passed away Thursday evening, April 10, 2025 at the Brooklyn Community Estates in Brooklyn. Celebration of Life for Dorthy will begin at 10:30 am Thursday, April 17, 2025 at the Holland-Coble Funeral Home in Montezuma. A visitation will be held from 10:00 am until the time of the service. Burial will be held in the White Oak Cemetery near Thornburg following the service. A reception and light lunch will follow the graveside service at the Deep River Legion Hall. Holland-Coble Funeral Home of Montezuma is in charge of arrangements.
Dorthy Mae McClune, the daughter of Robert and Ellen (Dougherty) McClune, was born on December 7, 1929 near Deep River, Iowa. She attended Tilton Country School. Dorthy held a few small jobs before moving to Cedar Rapids where she worked at Quaker Oats. She was married to Frank Stanek and together they had four children, Frank, Gary, Terry and Don. She moved back home to the family farm near Deep River where she was a homemaker. Following Frank and Dorthy's divorce, she was married to Henry Auen. To this union four children were born, Tommy, Mary, Judy and Renee.
Dorthy worked as a waitress at several restaurants and owned Judy Ann Café in Barnes City before going to work at Amana Refrigeration in 1973 retiring in 1998 after 25 years. During retirement, Dorthy kept busy by working at Brownells and then flipping houses in Grinnell to sell them. She was a hard worker and loved to keep busy working. She enjoyed flowers and having a big garden full of tomatoes along with other vegetables. Dorthy was a generous person and donated to multiple local and national charities.
Her legacy will be honored by her children, Frank Stanek of Temple, TX, Gary Stanek of Pella, Terry (Kathy) Stanek of Malcom, William "Don" Stanek of Des Moines, Tommy McClune of Malcom, Mary Auen of Salt Lake City, Utah and Renee (Duwayne) Carmer of Oskaloosa along with many grandchildren and numerous great grandchildren; a brother, Paul McClune of Gibson and many other friends and relatives.
Dorthy was preceded in death by her parents; a daughter Judith Tabor and siblings, Lee McClune, Naomi (Johannes) Thompson, Esther Harriman and Bernice McClune.
