John McNaul, 85 of Grinnell passed away Tuesday morning, August 5, 2025 at St. Francis Manor in Grinnell. Funeral services will begin at 10:30 am Friday, August 8, 2025 at the Grinnell Methodist Church followed by a luncheon. Burial will be held in the Ivy Hill Cemetery in Malcom. Visitation will be held from 5:00 pm to 7:00 pm Thursday, August 7, 2025 at the Holland-Coble Funeral Home in Montezuma. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Malcom Fire Department or St. Francis Manor. Holland-Coble Funeral Home of Montezuma is in charge of arrangements. John Eugene McNaul, the son of James and Mattie (Griffin) McNaul, was born on September 11, 1939, on the family farm outside of Montezuma. He graduated from Malcom High School with the class of 1958. On September 21, 1958, John was united in marriage to Janet Longnecker at the Malcom United Methodist Church. To this union four children were born, Kevin, Kathy, Laurie and Lawrence. John was a lifelong farmer retiring in 1990. Following retirement, he was the Poweshiek Sanitarian before working at the Malcom Transfer station. John served on the board of the Malcom COOP for several years, he was a member of the Brooklyn United Methodist Church, the Knights of Pythias along with a neighborhood card club. He enjoyed dancing, playing cards, bowling, and loved going to the Mississippi River to watch the barges. He also enjoyed yodeling (just not when anyone was around), camping, traveling, going on cruises, cornhusking competitions, playing practical jokes and going to Texas for the winter for nine years making a lot of new friends. He also liked John Wayne movies and Wheel of Fortune. John's legacy will be honored by his wife, Janet McNaul of Grinnell; his children, Kevin (Karen) McNaul of Montezuma, Kathy (Gene) Fox of New Sharon, Laurie (David) Durr of Montezuma and Lawrence McNaul of Djibouti, East Africa; daughter-in-law, Shannon McNaul of Grinnell; his 10 grandchildren, James (Mindy) McNaul, Jessica (Chad) Schmidt, Alicia (Michael) Call, Erica (J.D.) Griffith, Caleb (Katie) Fox, Lyndie (Adam) Mann, Dylan (Bethany Leonard) Durr, A.J. (Tiffani Smith) McNaul, Reghan (Bryce Oreson) McNaul and Kennedy McNaul; 17 great grandchildren, Cooper, Coyce, Cayson, Kinsley, Elizabeth, Harper, Laney, Kalyn, Parker, Perri, Callen, Kolt, Tate, Barrett, Brinlee, Daisy and Madison; a sister, Agnes Crepes of Brooklyn; a brother, Harold (Alta) McNaul of Grinnell along with many nieces, nephews and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents; a brother, Jimmy McNaul and a sister, Anna Mae Wakeley; brothers-in-law, Jack Wakeley and Ralph Crepes and a sister-in-law, Irene (Dan) Fisk.
