The life book of Sister Ada Marie (Hicks) Shaw Jones opened on April 29, 1940. She was born to Travis Hicks and Willie Mae Dunn-Burton in
Pflugerville, Texas.
Following her early years, Ada married Eugene Shaw on July 7, 1958. To this union, two daughters were born: Windy Jean and Andrea Marie Shaw. Later in life, she married Albert Jones, Jr. in 2003. They remained married until his death on December 26, 2018.
Her educational journey began at Beeville Independent School and continued at the Austin Independent School.
As a young lady, Sister Jones received Christ and was baptized at an early age. She was a member of the Friendly Will Baptist Church under the leadership of Reverend E. M. Franklin, where she sang in the choir. Later, she joined the St. James Missionary Baptist Church, also under the leadership of Reverend E. M. Franklin. Finally, she transferred her membership to the Mount Zion Baptist Church under the leadership of Rev. Dr. G.V. Clark. Under his leadership, she participated in the Silver Soldiers senior group and greeted congregants for more than 30 years, until her health prevented her from serving. Upon the passing of Pastor Clark, she continued her membership under the current Pastor, Rev. Dr. Daryl Horton until her transition from earth to her heavenly reward.
She worked for St. Edwards University in the 1960s. Ada was employed at the Lyndon B. Johnson Presidential Library as security staff in the 1970s. Complimentary to her commitment to faith and family, she worked for the following families: Dr. Robert and Barbara Tocker in 1965; Shelly Black & Justin McDonald in the 1970s; Bill and Pat Warren in the 1980s; John, Cathy, Charlie, and Michael Harrell in the 1990s; and Ms. Jenny in the 2000s. She was a caretaker, a nanny, and was also an integral part of the family.
