Ada Janelle Martinez, age 89, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, November 21, 2023, with her loving family by her side. Ada was born on February 28, 1934, in Paris, AR to William Hilton and Ader Bench Rutherford.
Benny and Jan met in Fort Smith, Arkansas, in 1951 while Benny was stationed at Fort Chaffee. They were married on November 20, 1951 in Fort Smith. Monday, November 20th, was their 72nd wedding anniversary.
Jan had many blessings in her life. She enjoyed spending time with her family, traveling, sharing stories of growing up in Arkansas, and walking barefoot in her garden. Anyone who met Jan could not forget her smile and personality. She will be greatly missed by family and friends.
She was preceded in death by her parents, William and Ader Rutherford; sister, Myrtle Rutherford; brothers, Tom Rutherford, and Olen Rutherford; sister in-law, Louise Rutherford; nephew, Olen Faye Rutherford.
Jan is survived by her loving husband of 72 years, Benito Martinez; children, Sherrill Martinez, Johnny "WP" (Debi) Martinez, BR (Eva) Martinez, Melissa Martinez, Marty (Robbie) Martinez; grandchildren, Rebekah (Michael) Lerich, Joseph Moreno, Dylan (Alexis) Stephens, Anjelica Martinez, Matthew H. Martinez; great-grandchildren, Hudson Lerich, Leia Lerich, Brendan Lerich, Sean Stephens, Amara Stephens; numerous nieces, nephews, family, and friends.
The family would like to express their gratitude for the love and support shown during this time and to Embrace Hospice for the wonderful care provided.
A visitation will be held on Wednesday, November 29, 2023, from 9:00 to 10:00 AM at the Vinyard Funeral Home Chapel, in Floresville, Texas. A rosary will be recited there, beginning at 10:00 AM, with the Funeral services to begin at 10:30 AM. Burial will follow the services, at Sacred Heart Catholic Church. A reception will follow the services, at the Floresville Event Center.
