Ada Beníquez de Rivera, aged 87, formerly of New Haven, passed away peacefully on April 29th at the Arden House of Hamden, where she had been a resident for a long time. She was born on September 18, 1936, in Isabela, Puerto Rico, the daughter of the late Luis Beníquez Quiñones and Carmen Seguí Juarbe. Ada was the beloved wife of the late Ángel Luis Rivera Sánchez of Ansonia, CT. In her youth, Ada had the honor of representing her community as the Queen of the annual Connecticut Puerto Rican Day Parade. She was also a devout Roman Catholic and member of the Cursillos de Cristiandad at St. Rose of Lima Church in New Haven. She is survived by her son and daughter, Ángel Luis Rivera, Jr. of California and Ada María del Carmen Rivera-Luciano of Florida, her daughter-in-law Áurea Rivera, son-in-law Omar Luciano, and four grandchildren: Melanie and Diego Rivera, and Yarimar and Yareliz Soto. She is also survived by her brother Felipe Beníquez. Ada was predeceased by her husband and her siblings Luis, Ramón, Antonia, and Samuel Beníquez. Calling hours will be held on Monday, May 6th from 8:30 to 10:30 am at the Peter H. Torello and Son Funeral Home, located at 1022 Dixwell Ave., Hamden. Following the calling hours, family and friends are invited to attend a Mass of Christian Burial at 11 am at St. Rita's Church in Hamden. Interment will take place afterward at St. Mary's Cemetery.
