Adam Scott Johnston, age 57, traveled into the mystic on September 20th, 2023. As always, he was surrounded by family. He spent a few days at UT Medical center, in Knoxville; then travelled on to join more of his family.
He was preceded in death by his mother, Peggy Brakebill Reed, father, Donald Johnston, and stepfather Donnie Reed. Scott will also reunite with brother, James Kirk Johnston and a tribe of aunts, uncles and cousins – and beloved grandparents. Now, he walks with God.
He leaves behind his daughters, Amber Amundson and Ashley McPeake, their mother, Dawn McPeake; Son-in-law Chris Amundson, grandsons Caleb and Ethan Amundson, granddaughters Cassidy and Colbie McPeake, nieces Heidi Jarvis, Destiny Ballew and Tiffany Whitfield (and their families); their mother, his sister-in law, Terry Johnston. Scott is survived by his 2 remaining brothers, Donald Howard Johnston and Ralph Edward Johnston and only sister, Connie Donita Johnston. He also leaves behind countless cousins, great nieces and nephews, aunts, uncles and numerous good friends. And Jack, the best dog.
In his life here, he was a builder. A skilled craftsman. A maker of useful things and often, beautiful things. His construction and his creations will stand as a memorial to him. He's left a bit of himself with each of us. As a small child his world was all about Hot Wheels – as an adult it was still about hot wheels. He spent countless hours and dollars on cars, trucks – and the Harley. Scott's illness prevented riding these last few years; a source of great sadness for him. His path of sadness is ended.
Please join the family as we gather at Click Funeral Home Middlebrook Chapel, Knoxville, on Saturday October 14th. Visitation will be from 1-2pm then at 2pm we will share all the best "Scott stories." We will pool our grief and try to drown it in a celebration of his life. Without him, we know there will be a little less mischief, a little less noise, fewer exaggerated, wild, colorful stories in this world. For a while, it will be a quieter, grayer place. But eventually, the color will seep back in with every story and memory of him. Scott would want ceremony and drama but then he'd want peace and quiet.
After the ceremony, we'll come together at the Elks Lodge, 5600 Lonas Drive, Knoxville, and share a meal.
Scott's ashes will be laid to rest at a future date, in Loudon County, alongside the bones of his mother.
In lieu of flowers, please consider memorials to cancer research or Young-Williams Animal shelter.
