Adán Cortés

Adán Cortés, cariñosamente conocido como "Pachis", partió al descanso eterno el 11 de febrero de 2026, a la edad de 83 años. Nacido el 19 de diciembre de 1942, Pachis vivió una vida definida por la fe, el sacrificio, la fortaleza silenciosa y un amor inquebrantable por su familia.

Originario de Puebla, México, Pachis enfrentó profundas pérdidas a una edad temprana. Su padre y su hermana fallecieron cuando él aún era niño. Fue criado por su devota madre, Amalia Contreras, quedando solamente ellos dos. Desde muy joven, asumió una gran responsabilidad para ayudarla y sostener su hogar. En esa pequeña familia de dos, aprendió la resiliencia, la disciplina, la humildad y la fortaleza constante que lo definirían durante toda su vida.

Como orgulloso inmigrante mexicano, Pachis dedicó más de 35 años de su vida a su carrera como ingeniero petrolero. Sin embargo, sus mayores logros nunca se midieron por títulos ni metas profesionales, sino por la estabilidad que creó, las oportunidades que aseguró y los futuros que construyó silenciosamente para su familia.

Hizo sacrificios intencionales para garantizar que la siguiente generación tuviera mayores oportunidades que las que él tuvo. Establecer a su familia en los Estados Unidos transformó la vida de sus hijos y nietos de maneras que resonarán por generaciones. Fue uno de los muchos actos silenciosos de amor que definieron su vida: decisiones tomadas no para el reconocimiento, sino para dejar un legado.

Pachis fue el amado esposo de Sara Cortés, padre dedicado de Dulce Hayashi y Chato Cortés, y orgulloso abuelo de Manny, Daniel y Marcelo Hayashi. Se jubiló no para detenerse, sino para estar presente. Si había un partido de fútbol, béisbol, básquetbol, fútbol americano o una competencia de natación - él estaba ahí.

Para sus nietos, fue mucho más que un abuelo. Fue un protector, un mentor y una mano firme cuando la vida se sentía incierta.

Hombre de profunda fe católica, Pachis participó en retiros de ACTS y ofreció charlas a parejas jóvenes que se preparaban para el matrimonio. Fue un ejemplo de lo que significa amar a la esposa, amar al Señor y amar al prójimo.

Creía profundamente en lo que significa ser un cowboy: un hombre de honor que no miente, no roba y carga con el peso más pesado para que otros no tengan que hacerlo. Un cowboy respeta incluso las cosas más pequeñas. Elegía caminar por la banqueta en lugar de pisar el césped. A menudo recordaba a sus nietos: "Acuérdense, los cowboys siempre protegen a su dama."

Vivió con claridad y serenidad. No había odio en él. Ni amargura. Solo paciencia, disciplina y gracia.

Muchos lo consideraron su mejor amigo.

Regresó al encuentro con el Señor habiendo cumplido su misión en la tierra, dejando una familia fortalecida por su ejemplo y nietos que continuarán los valores que vivió con tanta fidelidad.

El mundo es un lugar más hermoso porque Pachis caminó en él.

Será profundamente extrañado y honrado por siempre.

La velación se llevará a cabo el domingo 15 de febrero de 2026, de 2:00 p.m. a 9:00 p.m., con el rezo del Santo Rosario a las 7:00 p.m., en Rivera Funeral Home en McAllen. Los arreglos funerarios han sido confiados a Rivera Funeral Home de McAllen.

Adán Cortés, lovingly known as "Pachis," entered eternal rest on February 11, 2026, at the age of 83. Born on December 19, 1942, Pachis lived a life defined by faith, sacrifice, quiet strength, and unwavering love for his family.

Born in Puebla, Mexico, Pachis experienced profound loss at a young age. His father and sister both passed away while he was still a child. Raised by his devoted mother, Amalia Contreras, it became just the two of them. From early on, he carried a deep sense of responsibility to help her and support their home. In that small family of two, he learned resilience, discipline, humility, and the steady strength that would define him for the rest of his life.

A proud Mexican immigrant, Pachis dedicated over 35 years of his life to his career as a petroleum engineer. Yet his greatest accomplishments were never measured by titles or professional milestones. They were measured in the stability he created, the opportunities he secured, and the futures he quietly built for his family.

He made intentional sacrifices to ensure that the next generation would have greater opportunity than he did. Establishing his family in the United States shaped the lives of his children and grandchildren in ways that will echo for generations. It was one of many quiet acts of love that defined his life - choices made not for recognition, but for legacy.

Pachis was the beloved husband of Sara Cortes, a devoted father to Dulce Hayashi and Chato Cortes, and a proud grandfather to Manny, Daniel, and Marcelo Hayashi. He retired not to slow down, but to be present. If there was a soccer game, baseball game, basketball game, football game, or swim meet - he was there.

To his grandsons, he was more than a grandfather. He was a guardian, a mentor, and a steady hand when life felt uncertain.

A man of deep Catholic faith, Pachis participated in ACTS retreats and gave talks to young couples preparing for marriage. He modeled what loving your wife looks like. He modeled what loving the Lord looks like. He modeled what loving others looks like.

He believed deeply in what it meant to be a cowboy - a man of honor who does not lie, does not steal, and carries the heavier load so others do not have to. A cowboy respects even the smallest things. He chose the sidewalk instead of stepping on the grass. He would often remind his grandsons, "Acuérdate, los cowboys siempre protegen a su dama."

He lived with clarity and calmness. There was no hate in him. No bitterness. Only patience, discipline, and grace.

Many called him their best friend.

He returned to the Lord having fulfilled his earthly mission, leaving behind a family strengthened by his example and grandchildren who will carry forward the values he lived so faithfully.

The world is a more beautiful place because Pachis walked through it.

He will be deeply missed and forever honored.

Visitation will be held on Sunday, February 15, 2026 from 2:00 pm to 9:00 pm with a Holy Rosary being recited at 7:00 pm at Rivera Funeral Home in McAllen. Funeral arrangements have been entrusted to the care of Rivera Funeral Home of McAllen.
