Ms. Addie Jane (Battle) Petty, age 79, of
Sanford, NC, transitioned to eternal rest on Wednesday, September 24, 2025, at UNC Hospitals in
Chapel Hill, NC. Born on December 10, 1945, Addie lived a life dedicated to service, family, and faith that touched countless hearts throughout her 79 years.
Addie was the beloved daughter of the Ester Byrd Battle and Kathleen Kelly Battle, both of whom preceded her in death. Addie was married to Rush Petty Jr., who preceded her in death.
She received her early education at WB Wicker School and went on to earn her Certified Nurse Assistant certification, launching a career that would define her compassionate spirit for over five decades.
For more than 50 years, Addie worked as a certified nursing assistant, providing exceptional care to those in need. Her dedication to healing and helping others became the cornerstone of her professional legacy, reflecting the same nurturing spirit she brought to her personal relationships.
Addie was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Rush Petty Jr.; three brothers, James Battle, Milton Battle, and Lindo Battle; and one sister, Pattie Mae Battle Petty.
She leaves behind her cherished daughter, Jordache Anita Jeannine Tabon, and her grandson, Tyler JD Wallace, for whom she would move mountains. Her love for Tyler was especially evident in their shared adventures, often enjoying trips to the movies together.
Among her simple pleasures, Addie loved to cook and had a particular fondness for going to the movies, activities that brought her joy and created lasting memories with her family. She was known for knowing no strangers and was always ready to extend a helping hand to anyone in need.
Addie's faith walk began at McQueen Chapel Church in Lemon Springs, NC, where she developed the strong spiritual foundation that sustained her throughout her life. She often reflected on her blessings, saying, "I trust in God and I couldn't have made it 79 years without HIM."
Addie leaves to mourn her passing one daughter, Jordache Tabon and one grandson, Tyler Wallace.
She is also survived by her sister, Ester Line Battle Headen of Pittsboro, NC, and numerous beloved nephews and nieces including: Rickie L. Tabon (Woodletta) of Wake Forest, NC; Kenneth Ray Tabon of
Sanford, NC; Reginald Petty (Marie) of
Sanford, NC; Bruce Petty (Adrian) of
Sanford, NC; Curtis Evans (Shante) of
Sanford, NC; Venus Tabon Allen (Paul) of
Sanford, NC; Jacqueline R. West of
Sanford, NC; Bridget Petty of
Sanford, NC; Terry Cameron (Kenneth); and Jean Matthews, along with a host of other relatives and friends.
