Pruneau-Polli Funeral Home - BarreBARRE - Adele Alger (Rollins), 80, of Barre, VT passed away peacefully on February 1, 2026, in Burlington, VT. Born on November 29, 1945, in Westfield, MA, she moved to Barre, VT in the mid 60’s along with daughter Mary Alger and mother Dorothy Rollins. Adele lived a life marked by dedication to her family, a strong work ethic and a warm spirit that touched all who knew her.
Adele began her career at Sprague Electric in Barre, VT and later worked part time at McDonalds before retiring from Central VT Medical Center. Her commitment to her work was matched only by the care she gave to those around her, especially her children. Whether in the workplace or at home, Adele was known for being hardworking and friendly- qualities that endeared her to coworkers and loved ones alike.
Family was at the heart of Adele’s life. She is lovingly remembered by her children: George Alger and his wife Wendy of Beattyville, KY; John Alger and wife Tina of Barre, VT and Mark Alger and his wife Tracy also of Barre, VT. Adele cherished her role as grandmother to Richard Beach of Northfield, Vt; Amanda Hernandez and her husband David of Tennessee; Jesse Alger of Colorado, Kate Alger and her fiancée Jordan of Pennsylvania and Bradley Alger and his wife Brooke of Bennington, NH along with her great-grandchildren Aden, Ben, Lucas and Emma Fay of Bennington, NH. She was predeceased by her beloved mother Dorothy (Gram) Rollins on January 6, 2011, and by her daughter Mary Alger on March 6, 2025.
Adele found happiness in life’s simple pleasures. She loved knitting and could be found either working on a crossword puzzle from the local paper or a jigsaw puzzle and was a fan of the Boston Red Sox, always rubbing it in with her sons whenever the Red Sox would win a game, especially against the Yankees. Her orange salad became a beloved and requested staple at holiday dinners- a dish fondly remembered by all who gathered at the table. May Adele’s memory bring comfort to those who knew and loved her. From the lyrics of Elvis Presley whom she loved:
I'm gonna walk, walk dem golden stairs
'Cause I know my Jesus answers all my prayers
Well, I know when He calls me to my home on high
I'll walk dem golden stairs when I die, when I die
