Adrian Dirk Ryneveld was born in Rotterdam, Netherlands, and passed away peacefully in Renton, Washington, just days before his 85th birthday. He made Renton his home for 56 years, where he built a life filled with family, curiosity, and quiet determination.
Adrian was a devoted husband to Marjorie, his partner since their marriage on May 2, 1964. Together they raised three children: Christina Rustik (Gary), Paul Ryneveld (Natasha), and Tanya Smith, and watched their family grow to include grandchildren Bradley Rustik (Bailey), Alyssa Peponis (Alex), Liam Smith, and Rory Smith, as well as great-grandson Rilan Rustik.
A retired aerospace engineer, Adrian was known for his sharp mind and steady logic. During his 36-year career at Boeing, he was recognized as "Engineer of the Quarter," an honor he accepted with typical humility and a twinkle in his eye. His methodical approach to every challenge was both his trademark and his gift.
Outside of work, Adrian filled his days with the things he loved: tending his garden, reading a good book, and meticulously building model airplanes. His home library was an aviator's dream, filled wall to wall with books about flight, engineering, and the history of aviation-each one carefully organized and often read more than once. He was a lifelong Formula 1 fan, always eager to discuss the latest race, and he held a deep passion for the Museum of Flight. As T.S. Eliot once said, "Only those who will risk going too far can possibly find out how far one can go." Adrian lived that way, curious, precise, and always ready to learn something new.
A proud Dutchman and a bit stubborn by nature, Adrian never needed to brag about his accomplishments. His actions spoke for themselves. He gave his time generously to his community, serving as HOA president and leading the RAA Swim Team, always with his characteristic blend of reason, patience, and dry wit.
Adrian is preceded in death by his parents, Adrian Ryneveld and Gertrude Plomp. His legacy lives on through his family, his friends, and the many lives he quietly influenced.
