Agnes Macal, 93, of Battle Lake, Minnesota, died Saturday, April 6, 2024, at her home.
Agnes Gertrude Macal was born on February 14, 1931 in Lemon, South Dakota the daughter of Alex and Rose (Steckler) Seitz. She was baptized and confirmed in the Catholic Faith. Aggie attended the Kensal Public School in Kensal, North Dakota then continued her education for one year of college at Bemidji State University.
In October of 1949 she married Howard Smith and they together had four children, Carol, Dean, David and Ross. Agnes married John Macal in February of 1989. John passed away in November of 2000. Aggie had lived in North Dakota and Minnesota and moved to Otter Tail Lake, rural Battle Lake in 1989. She was employed nineteen years as a Field Representative for energy programs with the State of Minnesota retiring in 2000. Then Aggie worked ten years with the energy assistant program in Fergus Falls retiring on May 1, 2010. Aggie was an active member of Our Lady of the Lake Catholic Church and spent many hours enjoying being part of the church.
Aggies’s family---one daughter, Carol Smith of Battle Lake; three sons, Dean (Jill) Smith, Simone (Josh) Whitton and Kylie (Jacob) McVay of Eldorado Springs, Missouri, David (Carmen) Smith of Bemidji, MN, and Ross Smith of Tolna, North Dakota; and step-son Jon Macal of New York Mills.
She came from a family of five sisters and seven brothers.
Funeral will be held 2:00 PM, Friday, April 26, 2024, at Our Lady of the Lake Catholic Church in Battle Lake, MN, with a visitation beginning an hour prior.
