Highlights of Noni's Life

Noni Blundell Shepherd of Hyde Park, Utah, took flight on angel wings on November 2nd, 2025 at the age of 91. She was born on October 1, 1934 in Salt Lake City Utah to Marion Leo Anderson and Hazel Agnes Anderson who lived in Midvale Utah.

Noni grew up in Midvale in a loving family of two boys and three girls. She was the youngest child in the family. She graduated from Jordan High School where she was a cheerleader and an excellent student. She was always entertaining her family dancing and making everyone laugh and smile. Noni attended LDS Business College studying bookkeeping and accounting and made many friends there.

Noni married Walter Blundell who she had known for several years because her brother Boyd Anderson was married to Walt’s sister Irene. Walt dated Noni before enlisting in the Navy and they wrote letters to each other during his time in the Navy. In December of 1956 Walt was on a 30 day leave and came back to Midvale to visit Lee and Hazel Anderson and while he was visiting the Anderson home he reconnected with Noni and they went on several dates and one week into this whirlwind courtship, Walt proposed marriage and Noni said Yes! One week later, they were married in Midvale at Noni's Grandmother Miller's home on Oak Street. After a very brief honeymoon, Walt returned to Hawaii and Noni joined him two weeks later in January of 1957. Noni and Walt lived in Hawaii for 6 months in a one room apartment near Waikiki until Walt's enlistment ended and they then moved back to Salt Lake City briefly.

Walt and Noni then moved to Arizona to pursue a job there in the construction trades and Walt also attended Phoenix College. Their first child Rosalyn was born in Phoenix Arizona in 1958. They bought their first home in Glendale Arizona. While there Walt got a new job as a sales representative for a radiant heat equipment company. Noni and Walt decided that they wanted to move back to Salt Lake City and so they sold the home, packed all their belongings and headed back home to Utah where their other five children, Bryan, Tina, Brad, Ben, and Rachel were born. For the next 35+ years they lived in several homes in Salt Lake, Cottonwood, and Sandy Utah.

Noni and Walt became expert and buying building and improving their homes to provide a wonderful place to raise their family of six children. Noni and Walt took their kids on many wonderful trips and spent time with them skiing, boating, camping, and many other fun and exciting adventures. While living in their last home in Sandy, Noni took a job at the Alta View hospital in Sandy where she worked in the Snack bar and bakery. She became famous for the cookies she baked and customers would come from all over just to buy those cookies. When Walt became ill she took time off to focus on taking care of him. She cared for him until he passed in May of 1995. She then returned to work at Alta View until she retired and then traveled with friends and family on several cruises and even went on a safari trip in Africa with her sister Ruby.

In 2003 Noni married her second husband Charlie Shepherd who she met through a mutual friend that Noni went walking with. They spent many happy years together traveling and golfing with friends and family. They took great care of each other and split their time between a condominium home in Fruit Heights Utah and a condominium home in Mesquite Nevada until Charlie passed away in December of 2018.

Noni then returned to her home in Fruit Heights until health concerns meant that she needed additional help requiring a move to the home of her oldest daughter Rosalyn in 2019. She continued to keep in touch with all of her children by traveling to her home in Fruit Heights to gather with them frequently and even took a trip to Hawaii with most of them to build family bonds.

Noni spent the remainder of her life living with Rosalyn and her husband Jeff until 2022 when for health and safety reasons her care was entrusted to Legacy House of Logan. This was a very difficult transition for Noni’s children because it limited how they could care for her and made it much more difficult to gather as a family with her.

Noni however did what she had always done. She made the best of a difficult situation and made good friends at Legacy House and true to her take care of others attitude she spent a good deal of her time helping those friends and showing them love and compassion. She was always asking those tasked with caring for her, what can I do to help? The nurses and aides and hospice workers all competed to be the ones helping Noni. She will be missed by all of them. She even chose to pass in the early hours of Sunday November 2nd to minimize the grief and trauma the residents and staff at Legacy House would feel.

A viewing will be held on Friday, November 14, 2025 from 6:00-8:00 P.M. at White Pine Funeral Home 753 S. 100 E. Logan, Utah. There will be an additional viewing on Saturday, November 15, 2025 from 9:30-10:30 A.M. at Larkin Sunset Gardens, 1950 E. 10600 S. Sandy, Utah. A funeral service will be held at 11:00 A.M. following the viewing. Noni will be interred at the Midvale City Cemetery.
