Agnes M. Smith, age 103, of Rockford, IL, formerly of Darlington, WI, passed away on November 28, 2024. She was born May 9, 1921, the daughter of Edward and Mary (Kelly) Smith. Agnes was the last surviving sibling of 7 children; preceded in death by sisters: Bernice McGowan and Ruth Westerman; and brothers: Maurice, Horace, Ed, and Ben Smith.
Agnes was a descendant of Ed Smith, one of the eleven brothers features on the Eleven Brothers Cigar Boxes in the early 1900's.
Agnes was a feisty, independent lady that lived very frugally. She was very very smart, witty, and knowledgeable of the world. You always knew where you stood with Agnes; she minced no words.
Agnes held a strong faith that was a cornerstone of her life. Her unwavering belief provided her with strength and comfort through life's challenges.
Agnes lived on her own until the end of life, which is longer than one would expect. She is survived by many family members.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held Thursday, December 12, 2024, at 11:00 A.M. at Holy Rosary Catholic Church (104 E. Harriet St., Darlington). Burial will be in Holy Rosary Cemetery.
