Akkai Joseph Ward was born in Baton Rouge, LA on December 23, 1997, to Shenita Bynum and Alvan Ward.

At the age of five, Akkai accepted Christ as his personal Savior and was baptized at St. Peter Baptist Church in Plaquemine, LA by the late Rev. Van Smith Sr.

Akkai was educated in the West Baton Rouge School System and graduated from Brusly High School in 2016. Akkai played left tackle while in high school and received an athletic scholarship to the University of Louisiana Lafayette. Akkai remained a part of the ULL football team and received a Bachelor of Science in Criminal Justice in December 2021.

After graduating Akkai worked for the City of Baton Rouge Juvenile Services and Detention Department. Akkai aspired to relocate to Houston and was recently hired by the Harris County Sheriff's Office in Houston, TX.

Akkai's soul was unmatched. Although he was a person of a few words, he had a heart of gold. Akkai knew how to put a smile on everyone's face. Everyone that encountered him loved his gentle spirit and loving heart.

On March 6, 2025, a beautiful baby girl was born to Kelli and Akkai. She was the joy of his life as a new father. They spent many hours watching Law & Order and sleeping.

Akkai leaves to cherish his memories and to carry on his legacy his beautiful daughter, Brooklyn Armani Ward of Addis, LA; His parents, Shenita Bynum of Port Allen, Robert Singleton of Baton Rouge; Alvan and Shenekqua Ward of Texas; His fiancée' Kelli Bell of Addis, LA. His grandparents Deorlis Nelson of Port Allen; Joycelyn and Harry Green of Port Allen; Godparents Tuesdai and Ernest Bynum Sr. Akkai is also survived by his siblings, Allen Ward (Nyah); Cameron Patterson of Texas; Matthew Ward and Taja Wilson of California and a bonus sister, Toi Singleton; Uncles: Ernest Bynum, Sr. (Tuesdai), Corey Bynum Bynum (Dana), Kendrick Bynum (Danielle) and Micah Bynum; Aunts: Ava Orange, Latoya Bynum and Ebony Ward; Great-great Aunt Gladys Governor, along with a host of aunts, uncles, cousins, and friends.

Akkai is preceded in death by maternal grandfathers Claiborne Gordon and Elliot Nelson, paternal grandfather Allen Ward J

I'm so sorry to hear about the passing of this handsome young man. I've been knowing Akkai for a long time and this really hurts. I asking for strength and comfort for the families and especially his baby girl. Sending my condolences. RIH God has gain a beautiful angel!
