Alan Woodrow Bowman

Alan Bowman passed away on October 8, 2025, just a few days shy of his 85th birthday. A respected architect, he was founder and principal at Environmental Design Group. He left his mark on the city of Des Moines with many prominent projects including Des Moines Orthopedic Surgeons (Westown location), Iowa Heart Center, the KVI headquarters and the Willis Auto Campus.

Alan was an avid traveler, he loved new places and cultures and never left an attraction without a book, a t-shirt, a map or a brochure. He cherished family vacations, especially to Puerto Vallarta, Mexico. Alan loved riding motorcycles, building solutions to unsolvable problems and providing help and guidance to anyone brave enough to ask.

He was a beloved father and husband and is survived by his wife of 58 years, Lynn, daughters, Alissa (David Stewart), and Blythe (Albert Balestrieri), his two sisters Rhonda Sells and Nancy Jackson and their families.

Alan was funny, kind, generous, intelligent, and will be dearly missed.

A visitation will be held on October, 25, 2025 at 1pm at Westminster Presbyterian Church (4114 Allison Ave, Des Moines, IA 50310), followed by a celebration of life at 2pm.
