Alan David Carmack, 75, of Oden, AR passed away May 14, 1949, at home in Oden, AR. David was born May 28, 1949, in Oden, AR to OC and Jo Ellen (Aylor) Carmack. He married the love of his life Alice Harris on April 9, 1971. David is preceded in death by both parents, brother Stanley Carmack and Great Grandson Brooks Thew.

David is survived by his wife Alice Carmack of 54 years, daughter Crystal (Carl) Hill, son Calan Carmack, grandchildren, Kirsten (Doodle) Thew, Jacob (Kayley) Hill, Owen Hill, 6 great grandchildren Karlie Thew, Lainey Thew, Whit Thew, Jessa Thew, Ada Hill, Buster Hill, sisters Carol (Omar) Stapp, Mary (Jim) Cox, and sister in law Ladane Carmack, special sister Loretta Watanabe, brothers Bruce (Debbie) Carmack, Kevin (Sharon) Carmack, and Keith (Patty) Carmack, special family members Jim and Charlotte Joice, nieces, nephews and a host of other family and friends.

David loved his country and proudly served in the 1st recon 506th division 101st airborne in Vietnam. The Screaming Eagles were a brave group of men, and he considered them family. He was awarded the Bronze Star Medal and Bronze Star Medal with Valor.

He retired after 30 years of service with ARDOT as the area supervisor. He then got to fulfill his most important job full time as Papadoo. He loved his grandkids beyond measures-adopted grandkids included. He made countless ball games, cow shows, and vacations in the big green van packed full of kids.

Visitation will be Friday, May 16, 2025, 5pm to 7pm at Thornton Funeral Home in Mount Ida, AR. Service will be Saturday, May 17, 2025, at 2pm at Mount Olive Landmark Missionary Baptist Church. Bro. Kyle Cowart will be officiating. Burial will follow at Mount Olive Cemetery in Oden, AR. Pallbearers Doodle Thew, Whit Thew, Jacob Hill, Owen Hill, Calan Carmack, and Kevin Carmack. Hon. Pallbearers Carl Hill, Keith Carmack, Bruce Carmack, Jim Joice, Bobby Joe Irons, Jim Robinson, and surviving members of the 101st Airborne. Arrangement under the direction of Thornton Funeral Home in Mount Ida, AR. Guest register at www.thorntonfh.com.
