Alan Joel Chapman (Jake), age 81 of Lawrenceville, GA., passed away on Monday, November 25, 2024. He is preceded in death by his mother, Mildred Abercrombie; father, Charles Chapman; and brothers, Charles (Chuck) Chapman, Jimmy Chapman and David Jack Chapman. He is survived by his wife, Joyce Chapman; daughter, Amanda Smithey; sister, Jackie Mashburn; brother, Billy Abercrombie; sister in-law, Athena Chapman; son in-law, David Smithey; and grandsons, Brent Smithey, Justin Smithey, and Elijah Smithey.
Alan was a Vietnam veteran, and served a tour of duty in Germany, France, and Spain. He was a member of Snellville United Methodist Church and was always helping a fellow man while donating to numerous charities. Alan retired from the U.S. Treasury Department (IRS) and was a member of American Pool Association. He won trophy's at many billiards tournaments and also loved to play golf. He enjoyed watching football, western movies, and gangster shows, especially The Sopranos, and playing at the arcades with the grandkids. He was also a master builder of sandcastles at the beach. Alan lit up a room when he walked in and had a true zest for life.
The funeral service to celebrate the life of Alan Joel Chapman will be held on Saturday, November 30, 2024 at 1:00 PM at Tom M. Wages Snellville Chapel, Snellville, GA. Burial will follow at Resthaven Garden of Memory, Decatur, GA. The family will receive friends prior to the service from 11:00 AM until 1:00 PM at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers the family ask that you kindly consider a memorial donation to the American Heart Association, www.heart.org in memory of Alan "Jake" Chapman.
