Alan Genung Sr., 64, of Hopatcong, NJ, passed away on October 12th, 2024.
Alan was born in Point Pleasant, NJ on October 1, 1960 to Ralph Colton Genung, Jr. and Alice Elizabeth Abbey. He was the second of 4 sons. Alan graduated from Kittatinny Regional High School in 1978. He went on to study accounting at Centenary College. He began working for Ronetco Shop Rite in 1988 and continued working there until the time of his passing.
Alan had 2 children who became his entire focus. He never missed a performance, concert, or sporting event. Although Alan loved his children his 4 grandchildren brought him more joy and happiness than anything else in life. He treasured every moment he had with his grandkids and he never failed to be present for them at every family gathering, holiday, birthday, and school event. Every year, Alan made sure to be at his son's house on Christmas morning to participate in Christmas traditions with his children and grandchildren.
Preceded in death by parents, Alice and Ralph Genung and nephew Michael Genung. Survived by: son AJ Genung (Jenna); daughter Kristy Genung; grandchildren Noah, Mackenzie, Liam, and Kara; brothers Noel Genung (Barbara), Bruce Genung (Lori), and Matt Genung (Kim); nieces Danielle Ryan (Fred) and Rachael Genung, and many aunts, uncles, and cousins.
In lieu of flowers, the family asks that you enjoy a round of golf or a game of bowling in his honor. Donations can be made to Ginnie's House for their Angel Tree Program in Alan's name, P.O. Box 3156 Newton, NJ 07860 or visit www.ginnieshouse.org.
Family and Friends are invited to pay their respects and celebrate Alan's life on Sunday, October 20, 2024 at American Legion Post 390 located at 9 Legion Place Denville, NJ 07834. Feel free to come and go between 1 and 4 PM. Light refreshments will be served.
