Alan A. Harms, 81, of Howards Grove, passed away on Saturday, November 18, 2023, at Sharon S. Richardson Community Hospice.

Alan was born to Carl and Marie (Zuengler) Harms on June 13, 1942, in Sheboygan. He attended Millersville Grade School and graduated from Howards Grove High School in 1960. Alan was confirmed at St. Luke’s Lutheran Church in Sheboygan Falls.

Alan was united in marriage to Helen Gutenberger on November 6, 1965.

He was a former member of Faith UCC and charter member of Our Shepherd UCC. Alan was a former consistory and building committee member and pastoral relations committee member. He was a volunteer at Haven Fire Department for many years. Alan was also a part of the Board of Appeals for the Town of Mosel and served as a 4H leader for many years.

Alan was proud to be a journeyman plumber, working at Neumann Plumbing and Heating and Plymouth Plumbing and Heating over the years. He spent his retirement years helping his son, Craig, with projects at Restoration Gardens.

Alan showed strength and resilience through two bouts of leukemia. After Alan's first bout of leukemia in 1990, Alan and Helen flew to California for him to be a part of an experimental drug treatment for Hairy Cell Leukemia.

Alan is survived by his wife of 58 years, Helen; children, Dr. Debra (Robert) Moede of Algoma, Craig (Susan) Harms of Plymouth, Sheri (Danny Aleman) Harms of Hutchinson, Kansas, Jason (Lauren) Harms of Atlanta, Georgia; grandchildren, Michael Moede, Megan Moede, Holli (fiancé Andrew Meyer) Harms, Hannah Harms, Reymar Harms, Natalie Harms, and Julia Harms. He is further survived by his siblings, Carol Horness of Sheboygan Falls, Janet Schueler of Howards Grove, Carl (Donna) Harms of Grafton, Judy (Frederick) Westermeyer of Cleveland, John (JoAnn) Harms of Howards Grove, Dr. Molly (William) Weiler of Madison, Sandra Harms of Arizona; siblings-in-law, Dr. James (Sharon) Gutenberger of Madison and Donald (Barb) Gutenberger of Sheboygan; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Alan was preceded in death by his parents; parents-in-law, Arwin and Esther Gutenberger; sister, Mary Harms; brothers-in-law, Carl Gutenberger, Ralph Horness, Orlin Schueler; niece and nephew, Ann and Henry Westermeyer.

A funeral service to celebrate Alan’s life will be held at Our Shepherd UCC in Howards Grove on Wednesday, November 22, 2023, at 12:00pm. Visitation will be held at church from 9:00am until the time of service. Entombment will take place with immediate family at Greenlawn Memorial Park.

Memorials are appreciated in Alan’s name to Our Shepherd UCC or Sharon S. Richardson Community Hospice.
