Alan D. Lind, age 85, went to be with Jesus Sunday morning, August 10, after a long battle with pulmonary fibrosis. He was born on October 5, 1939, the youngest of five. He was raised on a farm in Idaho and graduated from Rockland High School in a class of 13. He graduated from Idaho State College with a degree in physics and entered the United States Army. He served in Germany for three years, then obtained a master's degree in nuclear engineering from Penn State University. After a year in Vietnam, he was assigned to the DC area and met Eva Munger. They were married on June 13, 1971. Eric James was born to them on November 17, 1977. The family was enthusiastic about orders to Germany in 1980. After a brief year at Pueblo Army Depot, they returned to Germany in 1985. There Alan was promoted to Lieutenant Colonel. Alan retired from the Army in Colorado Springs in 1989 after 28 years of service.

In retirement Alan worked as a Systems Engineer with PROFITSystems. He was known for his kind interest in his colleagues and his patience with recalcitrant hardware and software. His strongest response was, "Oh, joy!"

During their 37 years in Colorado Springs, Alan, Eva and Eric explore many hiking destinations, always indulging Eva's search for wild flowers. In later years Alan and Eva enjoyed several international trips and cruises.

Alan had a strong faith in Jesus Christ and was an active member of Radiant Church. As it had been everywhere he lived, he sang in the choir, participated in Bible Studies and served people well.

Eric married Heather Steen in 2004 and three children were born to them: Shaun, Hayley, and Phillip. Alan loved his family deeply; he and Eva moved across town in 2007 to be closer to them.

As illness confined Alan closer to home, he still enjoyed crossword and jigsaw puzzles and was a whiz at sudoku. He leaves an invaluable legacy of spreadsheets.

Alan is survived by Eva, his wife of 54 years, son Eric (Heather), grandchildren Shaun, Hayley and Phillip, and numerous cousins, nephews and nieces. He was preceded in death by his parents, Oscar and Eleanor Lind, brothers Darrel and John, and sisters Dessie and Florence.

A memorial service will be held at Radiant Church, 4020 Maizeland Road, Colorado Springs, CO on August 20 at 10am. Alan will be interred privately at Pikes Peak National Cemetery.
