Mr. Alan Mason was my mentor on so many levels. He was like an older brother who really cared. I could write a book about everything he meant to me. I can honestly say that I wouldn't be the person or man I am today without him in my life. He was both my swimming coach and english teacher at Floyd Central. As a coach he knew how to pushed me to be the best I could be and I never wanted to let him down. I also loved being in his classroom because he made learning fun and interesting. He loved his wife very much. She was such a beautiful, sweet and wonderful lady. They both would take us out for a great steak dinner every time we broke a swimming record. He loved his children with all of his heart and was so proud of them. He stepped away from coaching to be the best father and husband he could be when they were born. This world needs more men like Alan Mason. Godspeed Coach!

Alan and I shared lots of ideas and time.
We taught English, played guitars, played tennis, enjoyed woodworking, and rode bikes up to 100 miles together. We also had sons who shared the same birth date. He was a good companion. Mike Newkirk

I taught at Floyd Central for 32 years along with Alan. I never saw him angry or heard him raise his voice. I did hear him sing with his wife and listened to the joy they had in their hearts. I was also privileged to know Adam and Mandy who were amazing people. Know that your parents left this world a better place. Bryan Taylor

You can tell when a teacher enjoys teaching. I can´t remember which year I had Mr. Mason as an English teacher, but I´ll never forget his lesson on pronouncing words clearly and how those of us in Southern Indiana don´t move our mouths when we talk. He made the lesson funny and it really stuck with me.
My condolences to Adam and his entire family.

I had Mr. Mason for 11th grade English. Very kind and patient man who loved books and encouraged reading...both of which I love also. Praying for wonderful memories to bring a smile to your heart.

Mr. Mason was my favorite English teacher. I had him for both 9th and 11th grades. He encouraged my love for reading and loved to listen to me tell him about the latest book I had read. He was the first teacher that encouraged me in English instead of considering me a lost cause. One assignment we had was to memorize the opening of the Declaration of Independence (which I still have buried in the depths of my brain) and stand in front of the whole class and recite it. He was a BIG guy with a soft voice and a Huge heart for his students. I will always remember his part in my life.
