Alan Mentgen
June 2, 1956-January 3, 2024
With great sadness, we announce that Alan Mentgen, fondly known as Al, passed into eternal peace on January 3, 2024. Born in Beatrice, NE, on June 2, 1956, Al lived a life defined by strength, love, family, and unwavering faith.
Al was a 1975 graduate of Beatrice High School. Al was a devoted husband to his loving wife Candy Waltke, whom he married on June 3, 1977, and they built a beautiful life together in their hometown of Beatrice. His dedication was reflected in his 40 years of work as a lineman for the local telephone company, later called Windstream, where he served as a steward and liaison for the CWA Union. His favorite pastimes included reading, boating, spending time with his grandchildren and his loyal dog, Chloe. Al was an active member of St. Paul's Lutheran Church in Beatrice, serving as Head Elder, Usher, and Trustee for many years. His love for his family and church stood as the pillars of his life, guiding him in all his endeavors and decisions.
Al leaves behind a loving family, including his wife, Candy; his children, Heather (Andi) Dickson of Comstock, WI, Ashley Mentgen of Beatrice, and Adam (Dr. Carley Warner) Mentgen of Newport, KY, and his grandchildren, Tory and Aden Dickson, and Brooke, Neeley, and Ally Duff. He also leaves his brother-in-law, Arlo Seitz; nephews, Daryl Seitz and Kyler Robertson, and sisters-in-law, Cindy (Bob) Weise and Cheri (Norm) McConnell, and their families. Al now joins his parents, George and Rose (Novotny) Mentgen, and his sisters, Debbie Seitz and Connie Robertson, in heavenly rest.
It was Al's request that there be no visitation of public services held, but his family will inter his ashes in the Evergreen Home Cemetery in Beatrice at a later date. A memorial has been established in his memory to the family's choice for future designation with the funeral home in charge.
We invite all who knew Al to remember and celebrate his life. His legacy of hard work, strength, and dedication lives on in all who were blessed to know him. We encourage you to share your memories and upload photos of Al on his memorial page at www.ghchapel.com. As we mourn his physical absence, let us keep alive the spirit of Al Mentgen, a devoted husband, father, and Papa.

My deepest condolences to the family. I knew Al while working with LTT and ending with Windstream. We worked in construction and ended up both working as CST´S in Beatrice.
