Mr. Pentland was born May 13, 1926 in Brooklyn, NY, to Chauncey and Helen Farrell Pentland, and educated at Holland Patent Central Schools. Alan served in the US Navy during World War II, and in 1981, he retired from Griffiss Air Force Base in Rome, NY, after thirty-six years of employment.
Mr. Pentland married Wynema "Rusty" Smith in 1954, in Stittville, NY. He was a member of Central Methodist Church for 40 years, Christ Community Church for 10 years, and his last years were spent at Zion Lutheran Church. He was also a member of the Oriental-Faxton Masonic Lodge #224 and the Ziyara Shriners.
He is survived by his wife; son Thomas and daughter-in-law Cynthia of Gold Hill, OR; daughter Brenda of Rochester, NY; and granddaughters Kristen Lycett and Elizabeth Pentland of OR. He was predeceased by a son, Michael; his parents; brothers James, Richard, and Thomas; and sister, Judith Chubb.
A private funeral service will be held at Friedel, Williams & Edmunds Funeral and Cremation Services, New Hartford. Interment will be in Townsend Cemetery, Stittville.

Mr pentland was a great man and neighbor. He had a very good wit and dry sense of humor. When I worked at the house we had to have happy hour with Mr and Mrs Pentland which were drinks and snacks in the screened in back porch that was awesome. You will be missed.

Mr Pentland has always been one of my favorite people. He moved in next door to us on Glendale Place and has always been a part of our lives. He is one of my mom's dearest friend and he was always so good to her. Made the best manhattens!!!!!
