Alan P. Prunier
Northfield, MA - On January 21, 2026, Alan Paul Prunier, devoted father, passed away at the age of 52. Alan was born on February 4, 1973, in
Greenfield, MA to Paul and Beverly Ann Prunier. Al was a lifelong resident of Franklin County and grew up in Greenfield, attending Holy Trinity School. He graduated from Greenfield High School in 1991. In 1995 Al received his Bachelor's Degree in Economics with a minor in Business Administration from Fitchburg State College. Al worked as a senior investment accountant at PFPC Global Fund Services, and a teller and assistant bank manager at Greenfield Cooperative Bank. Eventually Al chose to be a stay-at-home father to his two children, Anson and Mylena. At age 41 Al was diagnosed with amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS), and spent the years after his diagnosis raising awareness, and making memories with his children.
Al grew up playing soccer, baseball, and hockey. He loved being outdoors, riding his dirt bike and motorcycle, gardening, kayaking, family vacations, hiking and playing men's league hockey. His love of hockey was passed onto his children who both play. As his disease progressed Al donned blankets, and a mountain of winter gear, learned how to tolerate a portable tracheostomy machine, and ventured out to watch his children cut up the ice at their hockey games. Al was the first ALS patient to perform the ceremonial puck drop at a Springfield Thunderbird Game for ALS awareness. He was also chosen to represent those who battle ALS by throwing out the first pitch at a Red Sox vs. Yankees game at Fenway Park, an accomplishment that he was very proud of. He was the first ALS patient to complete two specialized brain scans at Massachusetts General Hospital, and he participated for several years in the Walk to Defeat ALS.
Through his battle, Al never lost his sense of humor or his smile. He was able to communicate using a computer and always got a twinkle in his eye when he was telling a story or a joke or teasing his friends, family, and caregivers. Al's greatest accomplishment was his love for his children, teaching them the importance of being active, an appreciation for the small pleasures in life, and the joy of dancing to music or splashing in the mud. During his fight he did everything he could to remain on this earth for his children. He was a devout Catholic and his faith never wavered through his journey. He fought until the wheels fell off.
Al is preceded in death by his mother Beverly Ann (Dahowski) Prunier, and his stepmother, Carolyn Ann (Strom) Prunier.
He is survived by his two children, Anson and Mylena, their mother Jillian (Campbell) Prunier, his father Paul, his sister Aimee and his niece Amelia Simmonds.
A funeral service will be held on Wednesday, January 28th at 10:00AM at Our Lady of Czestochowa Church 84 K St.,
Turners Falls, MA. Burial will follow at St. Anne's Cemetery in Turners Falls.
There will be no calling hours.
In lieu of flowers, contributions can be made to Hope Loves Company, a nonprofit organization that serves children impacted by ALS.
Al's family would like to extend their deepest gratitude to the staff of Western Massachusetts Hospital in Westfield for their 8 years of care, and to the staff of Baystate Medical Center in Springfield for his care in the last two months of his life. Al believed in random acts of kindness and referred to them as ripples in the water that radiate after a stone is thrown. Al would want you to go out and create kindness, to pray, inspire others, and get up and get moving using the Charity Miles app.
