Alan San Filippo Obituary

Publish in a newspaper

Alan Francis San Filippo was gifted to the world on January 24, 1948, in New York, NY by his loving parents Raymond and Elena. He was a proud Sicilian and New Yorker through and through and grew up in Bensonhurst, Brooklyn and Nassau County, Long Island.
A gifted mathematician, he studied business at Bernard M. Baruch College and graduated in 1975, going on to build a career as an accountant and later as a dedicated hardware associate who was loved by all of his coworkers. Alan also proudly served his country in the National Guard beginning in 1971 where he honed his skills as a sharpshooter during his six years of service.
He married Maria da Graca (Grace) Rocha of Moitas, Ilhavo of Northern Portugal in May 1972, and made many beautiful memories together during their 14 years of marriage living in Jamaica and Queens Village, NY. He later married Rose-Marie on August 13, 1988 aboard a yacht in Brooklyn and went on to build countless fond memories during their 37 years together before settling down in New Rochelle, NY.
He brought nine beautiful children into the world - Michele, Alex, Alan, John, Rachel, Jackie, Julie, Shelby, and Sophia - creating a family full of love, laughter, and unforgettable memories. Alan also adored his four grandchildren - Daniel, Brianna, Mikey, and JJ - who brought him immense joy.
A man of strong faith, Alan never missed a Sunday at church dressed in his best suit. His holiday spirit was unmatched, with a collection of themed holiday ties that brought a smile to everyone's face. He lived in a sports hat and was known for his signature white tube socks, pulled up nearly to his knees, and Husky tool bag he carried around that had absolutely no tools in it.
Alan was a warm, wholesome, and lovable goofball that made everyone around him feel at home. He delighted in telling stories, cracking jokes, and sharing his deep knowledge of history. A lifelong Brooklyn Dodgers fan turned Mets superfan, he never missed a single game and enjoyed spending his time taking game notes and calculating player statistics. His tastes were delightfully specific: salted pretzels, firecracker popsicles, marble loaf cake, salted cucumbers, and one of his favorites - tuna in oil straight from the can. He also enjoyed early morning meals with his friends at McDonald's and spent countless cozy evenings cuddling with his cherished dogs, Giovanni and Lily.
Alan had a deep love for the arts and enjoyed listening to everything from classic rock and roll hits to the latest pop ballads, with Katy Perry's "Firework" being one of his signature favorites. He also loved watching his favorite films over and over - including Ben-Hur, Invasion of the Body Snatchers, and the Godfather - and delivering his favorite movie lines at any given opportunity.
Alan - beloved husband, father, grandfather, and friend - ultimately passed away at 77 years old at White Plains Hospital at 7:50pm on October 6, 2025 surrounded by his wife, children, and loved ones due to complications from a stroke.
Alan's presence lit up every room he entered. His unwavering love, sense of humor, and warm heart will be missed beyond measure. He is incredibly loved and his legacy will be carried in our hearts every moment of every day until the end of time. Rest in peace, Alan. You were truly one of a kind.
