Jean Melillo Obituary

Jean Estelle Melillo (Valerio) passed away peacefully on October 9th 2025. Although her last six years were fraught with health issues, she never complained or felt sorry for herself. She always had a smile and an encouraging word for everyone who had the pleasure of meeting her. As a child in The Bronx, Jean understood the complexies of mixed ethnicitis and the bigotry she often saw around her. She grew into a strong, independent woman who wanted to make a difference in the world. She spent the rest of her life testifying her understanding of love without judgment, encouragement and uplifting without expectation or demand. Her example, sincerity and genuine interest in others brought about success, world travel and a brand-new life at almost 50 years old. Whether she sent you a birthday card, knitted you a scarf or worked down your leg (you know!), her no BS approach to life left some feeling ruffled but the majority feeling truly heard for the first time. Jean is survived by her two sons, Ray and Joe; her siblings, Marilyn, Michael and Rae, and her closest friend of 45 years, Jeanne. In addition, Jean leaves behind three grandsons, four greatgrandchildren and countless friends that she touched along the way. She will live on always in our hearts.
