Alan Lee Schaeffer, 65, of New Athens, IL; born February 16, 1948 in Belleville, IL; passed away on Monday, November 25, 2013 at the New Athens Home for the Aged in New Athens, IL. Mr. Schaeffer was an auto body technician with Hoernis Auto Body for 43 years. He was a member of St. Paul Lutheran Church in New Athens, IL where he was confirmed in 2010. He was baptized at St. Paul's United Church of Christ in Freeburg, IL on June 20, 1948. Alan loved hunting and fishing and he enjoyed stock car racing when he was younger. He is preceded in death by his father - Howard Schaeffer. Step-mother - Catherine, nee Mulligan, Schaeffer. One brother - Dan Schaeffer. He is survived by his wife Carla Jean, nee Parker-Gardiner, Schaeffer whom he married on January 17, 1997 in Las Vegas, NV. His mother - Virginia Laux of Naples, FL. His daughter - Lisa Marie (Erin) Wheeler of Columbia, MO. Step-daughter - Jamie (Darin) Mattern of New Athens, IL. Step-sons - Richard (Lynn) Pratt of Smithton, IL; Craig (Laurie) Pratt of North Augusta, SC; Keith (Janis) Pratt of Summerville, SC. His grandchildren - Shaylynn Wagner of Columbia, MO; Kylee Wagner of Columbia, MO; Jackie Pratt of Freeburg, IL; Jaiden Ennis of New Athens, IL; Trace Bauer of New Athens, IL; Daniel Godfrey of North Augusta, SC; Nicole Pratt of North Augusta, SC; Travis Pratt of North Augusta, SC; Kayla Pratt of Summerville, SC; Aaron Pratt of Summerville, SC. His sister-in-law - Phyllis Schaeffer of Ashland City, TN; Step-brother - Dan Mulligan of Red Bud, IL. Alan is also survived by many nieces and nephews. Memorials may be made to the New Athens Home for the Aged Activity Fund. Visitation: Friends may call at St. Paul Lutheran Church in New Athens, IL on Saturday, November 30, 2013 from 9:00am to 11:00am. Funeral: Services will be held at St. Paul Lutheran Church in New Athens, IL on Saturday, November 30, 2013 at 11:00am with Rev. John Lukomski officiating.
