Alan (Al) Sebor was a man known for his strength & perseverance, but more so for being the type of friend others sought after. There was a warmth to his presence, a wittiness to his charm, and an ability to make all those around him feel welcome (probably from flashing his smile and the occasional wink). Being a great friend is one of the traits we will remember most, as well as his role as a father.
Born on November 14, 1947, Al enlisted in the Army at the age of 20, and served our country in Vietnam until 1969. After returning home, Al continued his commitment through serving the communities in Warrensville Heights and Solon, proudly wearing a badge for an additional 19 years. Near his end of service, Al was diagnosed with bone marrow cancer & lymphoma. At this point, he could decide to feel sorry for himself, or fight the fight and win. Al made the conscious choice to live the balance of his life as though his time was borrowed. He understood the value of life, and truly what it meant to live each day as though it was his last, a lesson & inspiration to us all. In these years, Al spent his time surrounded by the things he loved the most: his family & friends, boating on the lake, playing slot machines and an adult beverage where appropriate. For those closest to Al, they knew that the time they had together was truly special; something to cherish.
Al was preceded in death by his parents Joseph and Marie. Al leaves behind his four children Brian Sebor (Holly), Krista Scott (John), Andrea Sonntag (Dave), Eric Sebor (Sarah), six grandchildren, Nathan, Jenna, Drew, Emerson, Camryn, and Nora; two sisters Judy Reis (Don) and Lynda Kupecs (John), and nieces and nephews whom deeply admire him.
Al passed away after a rough battle on July 28, 2022; 33 years to the day after his infamous resignation from the Solon PD. "Big Al" will be missed by many, never forgotten and always in our hearts.
Friends may call at THE FERFOLIA FUNERAL HOME, 356 WEST AURORA RD. (OH RT 82), SAGAMORE HILLS, FOR VISITATION ON TUESDAY FROM 4-8 P.M. Funeral Wednesday 9:30 a.m. at the funeral home. Mass of Christian Burial 10:30 a.m. at Our Lady of Perpetual Help Catholic Church in Aurora.

Detective Sebor saved me in 1987. I am alive and thriving today because of his immeasurable perseverance, compassion and grit. I will forever be indebted to him. To his family and friends - I am so sorry for your loss, you lived in the company of a hero.

My condolences to your children and family. It's been over two years now, since we met at Punderson and you introduced me to your beautiful daughter. You were so proud. I'm thankful for the times we've spent together. Whether we were in Vegas, Medjugorje or years on the job. You were one of a kind and kind you were. I'll always remember you my dear friend and will be keeping you in my prayers.
