Alan Tatum Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Thompson Funeral Homes - Lexington on Dec. 5, 2025.
Alan Jackson Tatum went home to meet our Lord and Savior on December 2, 2025, at the age of 63, in Gaston, South Carolina. Alan was a loving husband, father, grandfather, sibling, and friend whose presence brought joy to all who knew him. He was preceded in death by his parents, George and Ruth Tatum, and his brother, Mike Tatum. He is survived by his devoted wife, Joan Tatum; his daughters, Lauren Tatum Gardner (Josh) and Ashton Tatum Gallagher (Paul); and his beloved grandchildren, Josie Gallagher, Liam Gallagher, and Ayden Gardner. He is also survived by his siblings Marty Anderson (Deb), Terrill Tatum, and Sherill Glaze (Don), as well as many nieces and nephews.

Alan loved the game of golf and was always ready for friendly competition with his golf buddies or his sons-in-law. Above all, he cherished his family-his wife, his daughters, and especially his grandchildren. He could often be found playing with them, spending time together, and even singing upon request. Alan's spirit was like no other; his quick wit and infectious laughter will be profoundly missed.

Friends and family are invited to pay their respects during a visitation on December 8, 2025, from 1:00–2:00 p.m., followed by funeral services at Thompson Funeral Home, 4720 Augusta Road, Lexington, SC 29073 beginning at 2:00 p.m. Following the service, Alan will be laid to rest at Southland Memorial Gardens beside his father.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests contributions be made to the American Heart Association or the American Diabetes Association in Alan's memory.
