Alan Richard Van Sickel, age 67, passed away unexpectedly, on April 18, 2025 at Avita Hospital in Ontario, OH.
Born December 8, 1957, in Cleveland to Eugene and Delores (Parker) Van Sickel, he had been a 1976 graduate of Charles F. Bush High School in Lyndhurst, OH. Following high school he obtained his associates degree from Kent State University. Alan had been employed at General Motors in Ontario as a Tool and Dye maker for over 40 years before retiring in 2013.
A man of many interests and hobbies, he had a knack for tinkering and dabbling in various projects around his home. Alan loved being in nature and feeding and watching birds. He always looked forward to trips with his grandkids to the Bird Sanctuary. He also enjoyed target shooting, boating and fishing. Some of his favorite fishing spots included the Gulf, Lake Cumberland, and Lake Erie.
Alan is survived by his children, Adamm Van Sickel of Ontario; Renee (Nathan) Ware of Marshallville, OH; Joe Van Sickel of Vermillion, OH; Richelle (Kevin) Vizkelety of Cleveland; four grandchildren, Ashton and Lillian Van Sickel, Miles Van Sickel-Ware and Howl Van Sickel; two siblings, Kathy Cull of Lyndhurst, OH and Amy Beard of Painsville, OH; numerous nieces, nephew and other relatives.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
Friends and family may visit at the Barkdull Funeral Home & Crematory in Shelby on Tuesday, April 29, 2025 from 4:00 PM to 6:00 PM with services to immediately follow with Reverend Mayor Steven Schag officiating.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Ohio Bird Sanctuary at 3774 Orweiler Rd. Mansfield, OH 44903.
