The Reverend Albert Buelow, 89, died on April 23, 2024 at Glen Oaks Alzheimer's Special Care Center, Urbandale, Iowa. A visitation for friends and family will be held from 9:30 - 11:00 a.m., Tuesday, April 30 with a service to follow, beginning at 11 a.m., at Messiah Lutheran Church, 6270 Merle Hay Road, Johnston, Iowa. Private interment will be at the Saint Paul Lutheran Cemetery, Latimer, Iowa.
Albert Henry Buelow was born in Fresno, California on November 24, 1934. Albert was baptized into the Christian faith and confirmed in that faith at Emmanuel Lutheran Church in Fresno, California.
Albert attended grade school at Emmanuel Lutheran School. He attended high school at Roosevelt in Fresno. Albert went to Junior College at Concordia Lutheran in Oakland, California and from there he attended Concordia Lutheran Seminary in Saint Louis, Missouri studying for the ministry. After graduating, he was called to teach Latin, Greek, and religion at Concordia College in Bronxville, New York. Before he graduated, he met and married Karen Grummer of Latimer, Iowa on August 17, 1961. They moved to New York. Albert taught at the College from 1961 to 1971. He was also Assistant Dean of Students and Religion Chairman. In 1972, he graduated from Columbia University in New York City with honors and a degree in Library Science. He was librarian at Concordia Bronxville until 1976, when he took a call to be Pastor at Trinity Lutheran Church in Odebolt, Iowa. Albert was Pastor at Trinity Lutheran Church until 2009 when he retired. Albert and Karen moved to West Des Moines, Iowa to live closer to their children. During his ministry at Trinity, he also served as Counselor for the Sac City zone of the Lutheran Women's Missionary League, Iowa District West Secretary and Archivist, and on other committees. He was the speaker at several Iowa District West's Pastors Conferences.
Albert was preceded in death by his parents, Carl and Anna Buelow; his sister and brother-in-law, Virginia and Willis Meyer, his brother and sister-in-law, Leonard and Donna Buelow, his brother-in-law, Vernon Meyer, great nephew, Maximillian Buelow and great niece, Jesssica Dehmlow.
Survivors include his wife, Karen; sons: Paul and wife Karla, Philip and wife Beth, Timothy and wife Heidi, and Jonathan and wife Jen; grandchildren Norman, Chloe, Carl, Aaron and fiancé Lexi, Joshua and wife Gracie, Raelynn, Justus, Nathanael, and Benjamin; great-grandson, Oliver; sister, Mary Ann Meyer and nieces, nephews, cousins and their families.
