Albert "Spinner" Charles Johnson December 11, 1946 - March 30, 2025
It is with great sorrow that we announce the passing of Albert "Spinner" Charles Johnson, 78, on March 30, 2025. Albert was a beloved husband, father, grandfather, and respected public servant.
Born on December 11, 1946, in New York, NY, Albert was the son of Emma and Albert Johnson. He grew up in Harlem, NY and graduated from George Washington High School in 1964. He later attended Bronx Community College, where he began his path toward service.
In 1965, Albert was drafted to serve in the Vietnam War, where he advanced through Officer Candidate School and earned the rank of First Lieutenant. He was then stationed in both Vietnam and at the Demilitarized Zone (DMZ) in Korea, where his leadership and dedication made a lasting impact on his comrades.
After returning to New York from military service, Albert worked at Klein's Department Store, where he met the love of his life, Linda Gail. The two married in 1974 and welcomed two daughters, Kourtney Lynne in 1975 and Kiley Joy in 1979. Shortly after the wedding, Albert joined the NYPD Police Academy, where he worked tirelessly and ascended to the rank of Sergeant in the Brooklyn North Task Force. Albert was a proud member of the Sergeants Benevolent Association and earned the admiration and respect of his colleagues throughout his career.
Albert had many passions outside of work. He went on many camping and fishing trips with his family. Albert and Linda also shared a love of the theater, frequently enjoying plays and musicals together. They also took many family trips to Atlantic City, even against their daughters' will! Albert was a lifelong Rolling Stones fan, sharing his love of music with his family. He was an enthusiastic chess player and loved tinkering with computers. He enjoyed golfing - though his "golfer's pace" often left his fellow golfers waiting a bit longer than they'd planned. But they always had a good laugh about it! Albert was also a dedicated Little League coach and his daughters were lucky enough to be on his team. He always went above and beyond by picking up teammates each weekend to ensure no one missed a game, teaching them the invaluable lesson of never leaving anyone behind.
Albert and Linda enjoyed a strong loving partnership for over 50 years. They spent the majority of their years together in Queens then moved to Wappingers Falls and finally settled in Fishkill, where they enjoyed quiet moments on their porch with their cats, Daisy and Kizzy, watching the fish in their pond and reflecting on the life they built.
Albert was predeceased by his parents, Emma and Albert Johnson; his two sisters, Sandra and Henrietta; and his nephew, Harvey Gaddy, Jr.
Albert is survived by his loving wife, Linda; their two daughters, Kourtney Johnson and Kiley Lazarus (husband Ian); and two grandchildren, Stone and Sage Lazarus, who brought him immense joy.
In addition to his immediate family, Albert leaves behind many nieces and nephews, each of whom held a special place in his heart, including Natasha Johnson, who was like a daughter to him and will surely miss his guidance and love. He also leaves behind his loving sisters- and brothers-in-law, Joyce and David Craw of Copake, NY and Karen and Conrad Falk of Leesburg, VA and many friends and relatives who will carry on his memory.
Albert's legacy is one of dedication, love, and service to both his family and his country. He will be deeply missed by all who knew him.
A celebration of life will be held at a later date. In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests that donations be made to the Castle Point Veterans Hospital in memory of Albert C. Johnson.
