Albert Louis Johnson was born on August 5,1940 in Chattanooga Tennessee to the
late Albert and Marie Johnson. His family moved to Alabama during his early
years, then returned to Tennessee, where he attended school and graduated from
Howard High School, class of 1958.
After high school, he returned to Alabama where he worked at St. Margret's
Hospital. Then worked at the Capital Building in the mailroom while attending
College, until he became the Personal Driver for the Governor of Alabama.
He made history as one of 4 African American's to be employed by the Historic
Greyhound Bus Line during the Civil Rights Movement in 1963.
He drove routes all over the United States, then became a driving Instructor for
Greyhound training new employees.
He was considered a Professional Driver and Driving instructor throughout his
Career of 35 plus years. Prior to his retirement, he drove for (MTS) the
Metropolitan Transit System in El Cajon California until his retirement in 2010.
Albert was peacefully called home on February 24, 2025. He leaves to cherish his
memory: Spouse Maria (Maru) Johnson, Son Albert Johnson Jr., Stepsons

Mauricio Tellez & Fabrizio Tellez. Daughter Wanda Prior and son in law Terry
Prior, step daughter Tina Jones and son in law Clifford Jones.
Grandchildren: Tasha, Frankie, Naquaris, Diego, Rodrigo, Darya and Mikel.
Siblings: Sister Mary Brown, sister in law Brenda Johnson, brothers James
Johnson and Henry Whatley.
And a host of Nieces, Nephews, Cousins, Extended Family and Friends.
He is preceded in death by both parents and siblings, Larry Smoot, Henrietta
Steele, Rose Smoot, Brother in law Eddie Brown and Stepson Karl Williams.
Our prayer is that Albert's loving sprit and legacy will live within us for

generations to come.
