Obituary published on Legacy.com by Lewis Funeral Homes & Crematory - Milton Chapel on Mar. 25, 2024.
Albert George Kalber, 51, was born on May 30, 1972, in
Willimantic, Connecticut, to James Kalber and Sandra O'Leary.
Albert, more affectionately known as Al, started his journey serving others in the Army National Guard and eventually switching to the US Navy. He worked as a Master at Arms. During this time, he met the love of his life, Velvet Kalber. They forged a remarkable love and married on October 30, 1998. Wanting to pursue his role as dad, they gave birth to their daughter Deven and after their son, James. Alongside Velvet, Deven and James became his entire world. After serving in the military for 25 years, Al started living his life's dream of being a Police Officer. He joined the Escambia County Sheriff Office in 2013. Al had a heart to serve and was always wanting and willing to give a helping hand. It was his Honor to serve beside his brothers and sisters in Blue. While at the Sheriff's Office he served the school system as an SRO. He protected the lives of students at Tate High School, Beulah Middle, Ernest Ward Middle, West Florida High and Escambia High. Not only did he protect but helped mold the lives of the students he met. A pillar in his community, he worked at various community events, including Camp Friendship, Upper Room Church, and Fast Roads, bringing his light and humor to every situation. He made not only friends at the Sheriff's Office but those he served beside became his family. His selflessness was always on full display but shined the brightest during the time with his family. There was not an event for Velvet, Deven or James that was not celebrated by him. No matter the cost, Al dedicated his time, resources, and efforts to enrich the lives around him. His family, friends and community will be significantly impacted by his loss, but his legacy will continue to live on through the people he touched.
Albert was preceded in death by his father, James Albert Kalber; sister, Kimberly Kalber; and Father-in-law, Angel Romero.
Albert is survived by his wife, Velvet Kalber; children, Deven Kalber, James Kalber; mother, Sanda O'Leary; sister, Karla Carr (Rich); mother-in-law, Maria Garay; sisters in law, Maria Thomas (Bryan), Marilyn Sensenig (Chad); and numerous, nieces, nephews and cousins.
Albert was called home March 24, 2024, while holding the hands of his wife, Velvet and his daughter, Deven. He fought cancer, never letting the fight break his spirit. Cancer did not win. Al won.
