Albert Thomas Lynch, Jr. (Bert) died peacefully at home surrounded by his family on August 24, 2024.
Bert, age 87, was born on July 3, 1937 in Honolulu Hawaii. He is the son of Lieutenant Albert Thomas Lynch, United States Navy, born in Chicopee, Massachusetts, and Betty Josephine (Tisbo) Lynch, born in Bari, Italy. Bert was the brother of Roberta (Lynch) Marsh and husband Bill, and Patricia (Lynch) Adams and husband Tony.
Bert is survived by his wife, Marie Aurelia (Garofalo) Lynch, and his four children: Albert Thomas Lynch III and wife Kathy; Melanie Marie (Lynch) Martell and husband Rich; Laurie Anne (Lynch) Wynne and fiancé Tom Stanwood; and Michael Kevin Lynch and wife Jessica Day-Lynch. He has nine grandchildren: Kelli Hill, Victoria Wynne, and Joseph Wynne; Caroline (Lynch) Sisto, Albert Thomas Lynch IV, and Edward Lynch; Chloe Day-Lynch and Liam Day-Lynch; and, Stephen Martell. And, three great grandchildren: Jake Martell; Nick Martell; and William Albert Hill.
Bert graduated North Quincy High School in 1957, where he met Marie, his high school sweetheart and companion of 70 years. He joined the United States Navy, where he spent six years on active duty and four years on reserve duty as an air traffic controller finishing with the rank of Air Traffic Controller, Second Class Petty Officer. He graduated from Riviera College in New Hampshire with a Bachelor of Business Administration. Bert's Air Traffic career started at Islip Airport Traffic Control Center in Islip, Long Island, New York and advancing his career as a controller, staff specialist, supervisor, area manager, and operations manager, retired from Boston Tower/Radar Approach Control after 44 years of service. Upon retirement, he was awarded the honor of having all the airspace south of Boston named after him, it is called the "Lynch" sector.
Bert has lived in many places around the world - Honolulu Hawaii, Golcuck Turkey, Naples Italy, Olathe Kansas, Brooklyn New York, Kodiak Alaska, Yorktown Virginia, Vallejo California, and Squantum Massachusetts - ultimately longing to return home as family was most important to Bert, and he and Marie wanted to be close to their families. They chose
Hanover, Massachusetts, where they made their home of 54 years, raising their children, and celebrating in all of life's occasions with grandchildren, great grandchildren, extended family and friends.
Bert was passionate about gardening and a bird enthusiast. His property boast numerous beautiful gardens, bird feeders, bird houses, fountains and misters, and plantings to attract birds. His property has been certified as a Wildlife Refuge by the Audubon Society. Bert grew his faith at Saint Mary's of the Sacred Heart Church. He was a member of the American Legion, Federal Managers Association, National Association of Retired Federal Employees.
Visiting hours will be held on Tuesday, September 3rd from 4pm to 7pm at Sullivan Funeral Home, 551 Washington Street (Route 53),
Hanover, MA. A Funeral Mass will be held at Our Lady of the Angels Church, 392 Hanover Street,
Hanover, MA on Wednesday, September 4th at 9am. Burial to follow at the Hanover Cemetery.
Bert enjoyed collecting navy memorabilia and Chelsea Naval Clocks and a supporter of the United State Navy. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in memory and sent to The United States Navy Memorial (www.navymemorial.org) or the
