Albert J. Olsen, 87, of Maine, passed peacefully on March 1, 2026, at Willow Point Nursing Home in Vestal. Born on May 10, 1938, Albert was a son of the late Oscar and Anna Olsen, in Amityville, New York.
Albert lived a portion of his early adult life in Long Island, New York, working for the New York Department of Transportation as a mechanic. Despite his excellent reputation as a mechanic, and later as a gas-station owner and operator in McClure, New York; Albert at his core was an inventor and a camper-extraordinaire. He proudly served his country in the United States Army from 1961 to 1963 serving as an automotive maintenance mechanic.
He loved camping and traveling in and around the United States, often attending Blue-Grass festivals. He was accompanied in his travels by his true love Fran, with whom he shared over 50 years of cherished memories with.
Always willing to help his friends and neighbors alike, he led his life with a ‘common-sense’ approach, if his solution didn’t satisfy the situation, his sense of humor did.
In addition to his wife, Fran, Albert is survived by the children he helped raise Lisa (Amanda) Miller, and Michael (Lyn) Miller, his grandchildren Kristine Miller and Sam Miller, his favorite 4-legged companion Kasey, and the many dear friends he met throughout his life. The family would like to extend a special thank you to Lori for her generous care of Albert.
Albert was predeceased by his parents, Oscar and Anna Olsen, his brothers Harry Olsen and Inky Olsen, his sisters Beatrice Murphy and Amelia Olsen, and a nephew David Olsen.
Family and friends are invited to a period of visitation on Saturday, March 7, 2026, at the Most Holy Rosary Church, 2596 Main Street, Maine, New York from 10:00 a.m. until 11:00 a.m. A Mass of Christian Burial will take place immediately following with Fr. Clarence Rumble officiating. Memories and condolences can be shared in his online guestbook at www.macphersonfh.com.
