Albert "Al" Wallace, age 74, of Tampa, Florida, passed away peacefully on February 22nd, 2025, at the James A. Haley VA Medical Center. He was born in Richmond Hill, New York on July 5th, 1950, and was the son of William Wallace Sr. and Edna Fox. In January of 1984, Al married the love of his life, Kathleen Wallace, in Hernando, Florida. They recently celebrated their 41st wedding anniversary together.
During Al's early years, he proudly served in the United States Army during the Vietnam era. His service time was primarily in Germany where he was a Crew Chief for the Air Defense Artillery. The pride he felt for his country was always evident, and he was rarely seen without his Army hat. He also selflessly provided a helping hand and coached other veterans in need of direction on how to apply for and receive their military benefits.
A skilled welder by trade, Al contributed to his profession with pride. He lived in New York, New Jersey, St. Petersburg, Florida and finally made his home in Tampa, Florida. His passions included bowling, woodworking, fishing, and knife collecting. Al's proudest achievements were his family and grandchildren, who illuminated his life (and most definitely drove him a little crazy.) Known for his friendly demeanor, he easily made friends everywhere he went and engaged acquaintances and strangers alike in conversation that left a lasting impression on all who crossed his path.
Al is survived by his cherished wife, Kathleen Wallace; his children, Pamela and Mark Alteri and their sons, Anthony, and Nicholas; Michael and Jennifer Wallace and their children, Fallon, and Cole; and Margaret and Jason Crodian and their children, Landen, Damon, and Riley. The family expresses special thanks to all of Al's friends and extended family for their support and love during this time.
A memorial service with military honors will be held at Bay Pines National Cemetery on Friday, March 21st, 2025, at 2:30 p.m. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to the Wounded Warrior Project.
Al Wallace will be dearly missed by his family and friends, but his spirit will live on through the countless lives he touched.
