Albert Edgar White Hertford - Albert "Edgar" White, age 92, a beloved husband, father, brother, grandfather, great-grandfather, and great-great-grandfather, transitioned to life with his heavenly Father from his son's home in Elizabeth City, NC, on August 3, 2025. Born July 7, 1933, in Perquimans County, NC, to the late Albert White and Bertha Eugenia Lowe White, he lived a life marked by dedication to faith, family, and career. Edgar served his country honorably in the U. S. Air Force during the Korean War, later serving in the Army National Guard. Edgar spent years working as a sawyer for a lumber company before retiring. His strong work ethic and commitment were evident throughout his career, earning him the respect and admiration of his colleagues.
A devout charter member of Elizabeth City Pentecostal Holiness Church, now Fountain of Life Church, Edgar wholeheartedly served the Lord, deeply rooted in faith, which guided him throughout his life. He served as Deacon/Treasurer for 20 years; as Treasurer, he handwrote the check for the property purchase of Fountain of Life. He was a member of The Full Gospel Travelers, served in prison ministries, and ministered in music in local county nursing homes for 30 years. He was a member of the Inter-County Ruritan Club in Perquimans County until his passing.
Edgar is survived by his current wife, Kay Whedbee White; son, Steve White (Jean); daughters, Anita White and Yvonne Marturano (Vinnie); cherished daughter-in-law, Lyree White; sisters, Jean Meads, Louise Wilson, Janet Overman (Leon), and Shirley Jones (Mark); brother, William Preston White (Joyce); his cherished grandchildren, Chris White, Kelly Gallop, Ryan Clark (Michelle), Chase White (Mary), Grant Overton, Rachel Lairsey (Tyler), and Bethanie Sprague (Sean); his adored great-grandchildren, Lashawna, Adrian, Aleeshya, Lakayla (Quinton), Morgan, Amaris, Fischer, Rylee, Jaxson, Madysn, Paisley, Sauyer, and Jett; and his great-great grandchildren, Tayla, L'ove, and also Riley, who will make his debut soon. Also blessed and survived by Kay's daughter, Dawn Whedbee Peele (Jeff); son, Paul Whedbee (Charlene); granddaughter, Carmen Stancill (Cody); grandsons, Stephen Whedbee (Tracey), Nicholas Whedbee (Samantha), and Connor Bright (Bella); and great-grandchildren, Charlie, Lawson, Avery, Hallie, and Hampton. Edgar was preceded in death by his parents; his first wife, Edna Mae Gee White; his son, Edgar "Eddie" Adrian White; and his brother-in-law, Billy Wilson.
A funeral service with military honors will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Monday, August 11, 2025, at Fountain of Life Church with Pastor Hans Hess officiating. A private burial will be at New Hollywood Cemetery. The family will greet visitors prior to the service, from 12:00 - 1:00 p.m., at the church and at all other times at the home of his daughter-in-law, 203 Planters Run, Elizabeth City, NC 27909.
