Alberta Marie Newman

Alberta Marie "Bertie" Newman died quietly Sunday, January 28, 2024, at the James River Care Center in Springfield, Missouri. Bertie was born August 11, 1929, in Boonville, Missouri as Alberta Johnmeyer. Her six older brothers preceded her in death. She was married to Bill Newman for 65 happy years until his death.
Bertie has Three (3) children: Peggy Esch, Bill Newman (René), and John Newman (Jennifer). She has Five (5) grandchildren, Nine (9) great-grandchildren, One (1) great-great grandchild, and a large and loving extended family.
These are our memories. She could not swim, and was afraid of water, but she went white water rafting, on the Cache le Poudre. She had a knee and hip replacement, but she jumped on the trampoline with her granddaughters. She wore "Love that Red" lipstick and never eye makeup. She spent her life cooking, gardening, and taking care of children. A Sunday afternoon found her blowing soap bubbles with each new generation. Every meal was a table full of favorite recipes. Strong, brave, willful and happy.
A service will be privately held in Springfield, Missouri. Bertie's family offers sincere thanks for the comfort and loving care provided by the staff at James River Care Center and the Phoenix Hospice nurses.
