Frederic Elliot Newman, 83, Market Research Executive and Lifelong Film Enthusiast, Dies

Frederic Elliot Newman, a warmhearted and discerning mind in the world of market research, and a devoted husband, father, and grandfather, died April 13, 2025, at the age of 83.

Known for his genuine warmth and infectious love of classic and international cinema, Fred was a man whose passions ran deep-from the silver screen to the golf course to the beloved Brooklyn Dodgers, whose move to Los Angeles never shook his loyalty.

Born in New York] in 1942, Fred had a distinguished career in market research, holding senior positions at General Foods, Kraft, and later Philip Morris. After retiring from corporate life, he continued his work through his own consultancy.

Fred's passion for film was legendary among those who knew him. Whether it was the humanist depth of The Bicycle Thief, the suspense of Strangers on a Train, or the charm of My Man Godfrey, he brought a scholar's appreciation and a fan's enthusiasm to every frame.

In retirement, Fred dedicated himself to perfecting his golf game, especially his short game, which he continued to play with focus and joy well into his late 70s.

He is survived by his beloved wife, Sandra; his daughter, Nicole; and his cherished grandchildren, who were the pride of his life. He will be remembered for his boundless warmth, his intellect, and the way he made everyone around him feel heard, welcomed, and valued.

A private family service will be held. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made in Fred's memory to a film preservation or cancer organization of your choice.
