Alberto C. Basquez, 75, of Brenham, TX, died on July 15, 2023.
A visitation will be held Thursday, July 20 from 7am-8pm with the family present from 5pm-8pm. A rosary will begin at 6:30pm.
A funeral mass will be held 10am Friday, July 21 at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Brenham. Burial will follow in Calvary Cemetery.
Alberto was born on May 29, 1948 in Lee County to Benito and Crespina Castro Basquez. He was baptized on November 20, 1948 and had his first communion on May 12, 1957. He married his wife, Odelia Ramirez, on September 27, 1969. He worked as a foreman for Exxon in the oil industry.
Alberto worked for Exxon for 38 years and received many awards for his achievements throughout his career including a personalized retirement ring decorated with rubies. He also enjoyed gardening and being outdoors. He took pride in his yard and enjoyed mowing and keeping it beautiful. He enjoyed listening to music, especially Tejano, funk and soul. One of his favorite artists was James Brown. He watched old western shows like Gunsmoke and funny movies like The Three Stooges. Alberto loved spending time with his family and attending family gatherings. He loved talking with people and giving advice, he had so much to share. He was a football fan and enjoyed cheering for the Texas Longhorns and Dallas Cowboys.
Alberto is survived by his wife, Odelia Basquez of Brenham, TX; daughters and sons-in-law, Frances Basquez and husband Thomas Ryall of Lufkin, TX, Anita Rios and husband Steven of Brenham, TX; daughter, Sandra Tillery of Brenham, TX; brother and sister-in-law, Paul Basquez and wife Virginia of Victoria, TX; grandchildren, Angela Aviles Trinidad and Eduardo Aviles of Lufkin, TX, Cristana Trinidad and Jonathan Mueck of Bryan, TX, Daniela Trinidad Najarro Fernandez and Luis Najarro Fernandez of Lufkin, TX, Albert Paul Basquez Rios, Gabriella Diane Rios, Kristopher Isaiah Rios, and Jacob Esteven Rios, all of Brenham, TX; great-grandchildren, Analicia Trinidad, Jovani Aviles Trinidad, Maribella Aviles Trinidad, Edward Aviles Trinidad, Eliza Aguilar, Charlotte Basquez, and Adrian Rios; numerous nieces, nephews, and other extended family who he loved dearly.
He is preceded in death by his parents, Benito and Crespina Basquez; five brothers, Henry Basquez, Epifanio “Pete” Basquez, Joe Basquez, Daniel Basquez, and Basilio Basquez; his sister, Louisa Villanueva; brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law, Josephine Basquez, Hilaria Basquez, Louise “Terry” Basquez, Ramona Basquez, Gregory Juarez, Jr., Albert Ramirez, Petra Ramirez, Melvin Smith and Marie Juarez.
Serving as pallbearers will be Albert Rios, Kristopher Rios, Jacob Rios, Ray Ramirez, Anthony Basquez, Adam Basquez, Nathan Ramirez and Andrew Flores.
Serving as an honorary pallbearers will be Roman Rodriguez, Andrew Rodriguez and David Lee Ramirez.
