Alberto P. Molina, Harlingen – Alberto P. Molina, 85, died peacefully at his home on Wednesday, September 10, 2025. Visitation for family and friends is from 8 - 10 a.m. with a "celebration of life" to be held from 10 – 11 a.m. on Monday, September 15th, at Thomae Garza Funeral Home in San Benito. Burial ceremony will follow that afternoon at 1 p.m. at Rio Grande Valley State Veterans Cemetery.
Albert was born on April 27, 1940, in Harlingen, Texas, to Mariano Molina and Luisa Perez Molina. Shortly after graduation from Lyford High School, Albert enlisted in the United States Army, serving on active duty from 1962-1965 with a tour in Vietnam from 1964-1965. While in Vietnam, Albert served on the COMUSMACV staff, working at General Westmoreland's Headquarters in the Intelligence Section. He completed his military service as a Specialist 5 (E5). Following his military service, Albert married Lucy Silva in 1966. A few years later their one and only child, Melinda, was born. Albert worked several career jobs over the years in South Texas and Houston, culminating his work with the Veteran's Administration (VA) in Corpus Christi where he served as the VA Loan Guarantee Officer for South Texas. Albert retired in 2007 after 25 years of federal service. Albert was an amazing grandfather, father, brother, and friend who dedicated his life to serving others. He was an avid bowler and loved all things golf, whether playing it or watching it on TV for hours on end (on mute). He lived by his goal in life of "doing it his way" and loved his family and friends. Albert also loved spending time at the "maquinitas," usually walking out each weekend as the envy of all there after winning big. Albert was a selfless, respected leader, loved and cherished by those he served with in the military and the VA.
Albert is survived by his daughter, Melinda Molina Garcia (COL Retired Paul N. Garcia) and two grandchildren – Aaron and Karina who are both attending college and both of whom he was extremely proud. He is survived as well by his remaining brothers and sisters – Esther (Joe+), Estella, Emma (Noe+/Luis+), Eduvina (Frank), Joaquin, Mariano (Rosa). Albert joins his parents and youngest brother Juan Manuel with their Lord and Savior.
The family wants to thank all the doctors and nurses that provided outstanding care over the years at Harlingen VA Healthcare Center, Harlingen Medical Center, Valley Baptist Inpatient Rehab, Solara Specialty Hospital, and Windsor Harlingen to include Doctors Joseph Bender, Emmanuel Akinyemi, Eugene Luckstead, Brajesh Bhatla. We would especially like to thank Lucy Molina for her selfless and dedicated personal care of Albert over the past years. Despite being divorced for the past 40 years, Lucy was dedicated to ensuring Albert was well taken care of.
