Albino C. Silva

Albino C. Silva, 75 of Lowell, passed away peacefully in the early morning hours on Sunday, October 12, 2025 at his home surrounded by his family. He was the husband of Maria Fatima (Mendonca) Silva with whom he shared the last 52 years of marriage.
He was born on May 9, 1950, in Graciosa, Azores, Portugal, a son of the late Antonio Correia da Silva and the late Georgina Rose da Silva. He was raised and educated in Graciosa and in 1967 he immigrated to the United States and made his home in the Back Central area where he resided until his passing.
Prior to coming to the states he played soccer for the Sporting Clube in Graciosa. Once in the United States, he continued to play soccer for various local teams and eventually coached some of the local teams including his two sons. He worked as a machine operator for several companies, including Grace Shoe, Canada Dry, and Prince Spaghetti, before retiring from Interstate Container. Although he played for the Sporting soccer team in his younger years, he was a devoted Benfica fan and never missed a game. He also enjoyed watching the Boston Bruins hockey team, wrestling, and loved watching bullfights whether on TV or in person. Some of his favorite hobbies were fishing, playing Sueca, and playing the guitar. For many years he played guitar for various Carnival dances where he enjoyed playing next to his children who also participated in this Portuguese tradition. He also enjoyed tending to his grapevine and loved making his own homemade wine. Above all, he cherished spending time with his family especially his grandchildren who he adored.
He was a communicant of St. Anthony's Church; a member of the Holy Ghost Society and the Holy Trinity. He was also a member of the Portuguese Civic League the "Red's Club" and the Portuguese American Center the "Blue's Club".
In addition to his wife, Maria, he is survived by four children, Nina F. Silva and her husband, John of Tewksbury, Paul M. Silva and his wife, Elizabeth of Peabody, Jimmy V. Silva and Melissa Morales of Lowell and Malinda F. Silva and Helio DeMelo of Lawrence; his grandchildren, Jordan Silva of Dover, NH; Calvin and Evan Silva of Tewksbury, MA; Kailey and Aidan Silva of Peabody, MA; Austin Silva DeMelo of Lawrence, MA, and Jayden Silva of Lowell, MA; and his two great-grandchildren, Charlotte and Levi Silva. He is also survived by his two sisters and their husbands, Maria Quadros and her husband Valentino of Graciosa, Azores and Argentina Guichard and her husband Brian of Chelmsford, MA; and his sister-in-law, Fatima Silva of Graciosa, Azores. He also leaves behind many nieces, nephews, and godchildren, including Manuel 'Gabe' da Silva who was his nephew and godson and who he shared a very special bond with.
In addition to his parents, Albino is predeceased by his siblings, the late Flurivald, Arlindo, Irailde and Isolina who all passed away as children; Manuel Correia da Silva, Juventino Correia Silva and Alberto Correia da Silva. His in-laws, Deocleciano & Guadalupe Mendonca, his brother-in-law Genuino Mendonca and his sister-in-laws, Delminda da Silva and Aldina da Silva.
The family would like to thank all the doctors and nurses at Lowell General Hospital, main campus for all their support and care they provided to Albino during the past few weeks.
On Saturday, October 18, 2025 all are welcome to attend his calling hours from 8:00 a.m. - 10:00 a.m. at McDonough Funeral Home, 14 Highland Street, Lowell 978-458-6816. His funeral mass will be offered at 11:00 a.m. at St. Anthony's Church, 893 Central Street, Lowell, followed by procession to St. Mary Cemetery in Tewksbury.
