Aldyth Leonie Duncan
Aldyth Leonie Duncan,
Yorktown, Virginia With heavy hearts and watery eyes, our beloved Aldyth Leonie Duncan, 73, of
Yorktown, Virginia, passed away unexpectedly on January 14, 2026.
Every life has a story, and every story has a lesson-Leonie's was one of profound faith, love, and celebration in Christ. Leonie was born in the beautiful, lush tropical parish of Portland, Jamaica, West Indies, the daughter of Gladys and Victor Gray. Leonie attended Titchfield High School in Port Antonio, Portland, Jamaica, before immigrating in 1968 to the Bronx, New York. She attended James Monroe High School there and went on to become an alumna of Lehman College in the Bronx. She then attended Oral Roberts University in Tulsa, Oklahoma, and shortly thereafter traveled to Belgium. Leonie later relocated from Belgium to Queens, New York, where she began modeling for Stuffed Shirts and Jeans in Manhattan, NYC. Her next adventure took her to Northern California near Travis Air Force Base (in the foothills of wine country), where she married a loving Colbert "Danny" Duncan. In 1984, Leonie and her family relocated to Virginia (near Langley Air Force Base in Hampton), and with her burning entrepreneurial spirit, she bought and owned Hibiscus Beauty Salon in Hampton, Virginia. Leonie's pursuit of truth believed life should not only be lived but celebrated with Jesus Christ every day. As an amazing child of God, with her preferential magnetism to the color blue-symbolic of her rich royal character-and her natural, God-given gifts of compassion, generosity, loyalty, kindness, empathy, and unquestionable ethical character, she was propelled to be an ardent crusader for Christ. Leonie had a calling to mentor youthful offenders in the prison system, helping them achieve their God-given potential because they were created in God's image, and guiding them to make better choices upon re-entering society. Leonie was a devoted mother whose greatest earthly joy was raising her four beloved sons: Gregory "Prince", Preston, Caleb, and Chad. She poured her God-given gifts into her four sons, nurturing their potential as their steadfast guide, praying fervently over their paths, and rejoicing that they, too, would shine as lights in the world for Jesus Christ. God, in His amazing grace, loaned us a rare jewel in the form of Leonie. There are very few people in the world blessed with these attributes. Everybody Leonie touched loved her. Her grandchildren were the joy and apples of her eyes. Leonie's departure from this earth to a greater joy is preceded by her parents, Victor and Gladys, her older brother, Orlando "Jonny" Gray, and her first husband Gregory McDougald. To cherish her memory forever-in-love, she is survived by her husband of 46 years, Danny Duncan; her four sons, Gregory "Prince", Preston (Shana), Caleb (Susie), and Chad (Caitlin); her brothers, Dorian Gray, Carl Gray, and Hermon Gray; her sister, Marie Gray-Mignott; and 10 grandchildren (Prince: Alexandria, Nicholas, Noah, Christian, Ethan; Caleb: Trevor, Aaliyah; Chad: Samson, Grace, Jeremiah), as well as numerous cherished family members, friends, and church brothers and sisters from World Outreach Worship (WOW) Center in Newport News, Virginia, which has been her worship home for over 37 years. In her departure, her family, with the greatest appreciation, thanks all for the expressions of love and support extended during their bereavement. Beloved Leonie, we thank God for the time we had with you.
Leonie Duncan's Celebration of Life will be held at the WOW Center 1233 Shields Road,
